We review what is currently known about the gluon Sivers distribution and what are the opportunities to learn more about it. Because single transverse spin asymmetries in p up arrow p -> pi X provide only indirect information about the gluon Sivers function through the relation with the quark-gluon and tri-gluon Qiu-Sterman functions, current data from hadronic collisions at RHIC have not yet been translated into a solid constraint on the gluon Sivers function. SIDIS data, including the COMPASS deuteron data, allow for a gluon Sivers contribution of natural size expected from large N-c arguments, which is O(1/N-c) times the nonsinglet quark Sivers contribution. Several very promising processes to measure the gluon Sivers effect directly have been suggested, which besides RHIC investigations, would strongly favor experiments at AFTER@LHC and a possible future Electron-Ion Collider. Due to the inherent process dependence of TMDs, the gluon Sivers TMD probed in the various processes are different linear combinations of two universal gluon Sivers functions that have different behavior under charge conjugation and that therefore satisfy different theoretical constraints. For this reason both hadronic and DIS type of collisions are essential in the study of the role of gluons in transversely polarized protons.

A Unified View on Geometric Phases and Exceptional Points in Adiabatic Quantum Mechanics

Eric J. Pap, Daniel Boer, Holger Waalkens

Summary: This article presents a formal geometric framework for studying adiabatic quantum mechanics involving non-degenerate Hamiltonians in arbitrary finite-dimensional spaces. By examining the space of non-degenerate operators and the energy bands of Hamiltonian families, as well as the eigenrays forming a bundle, a generalized geometric phase is obtained. This framework also incorporates the non-geometric dynamical phase and can be recast as a principal bundle to simultaneously handle geometric phases and permutations of eigenstates.

Probing gluon GTMDs through exclusive coherent diffractive processes

Daniel Boer, Chalis Setyadi

Summary: This paper extends a previous GTMD model to improve the description of diffractive dijet production and includes exclusive coherent diffractive J/psi production data. The results show considerable tension between the data for these two types of processes concerning the t dependence within the context and assumptions of the gluon GTMD model. Data from EIC for photo- and electroproduction of protons and nuclei, as well as UPC data from LHC and RHIC, can help establish whether a common GTMD description is possible and provide predictions for the various experiments beyond the description in terms of GPDs.

TMD evolution study of the cos 2? azimuthal asymmetry in unpolarized J/ψ production at EIC

Jelle Bor, Daniel Boer

Summary: The article studies gluon transverse momentum distributions in electron-proton collisions. By including TMD evolution, the authors improve on previous studies of the cos 20 azimuthal asymmetry. They find that in the TMD regime, the asymmetry grows monotonically with increasing transverse momentum of the outgoing J/iy, contrary to tree level calculations. The predictions for the asymmetry at the EIC can be very large, exceeding the positivity bound.

Scale evolution of T-odd gluon TMDs at small x

Daniel Boer, Yoshikazu Hagiwara, Jian Zhou, Ya-jin Zhou

Summary: In this paper, we study the TMD evolution of three leading twist dipole type T-odd gluon TMDs inside a transversely polarized nucleon, which originate from the spin dependent odderon. We suggest studying their evolution through azimuthal asymmetries in virtual photon-jet production in polarized proton-proton collisions at RHIC.

GTMD model predictions for diffractive dijet production at EIC

Daniel Boer, Chalis Setyadi

Summary: In this paper, a small-x model for gluon GTMDs is considered and fitted to data on diffractive dijet production in electron-proton collisions from HERA's H1 Collaboration. Predictions for the EIC for both electroproduction and photoproduction are obtained using this model. The impact parameter dependence and implications for the model's applicability range are discussed, highlighting subtle issues related to localization of states and choice of frames.

Extracting color octet NRQCD matrix elements from J/ψ production at the EIC

Daniel Boer, Cristian Pisano, Pieter Taels

Summary: Recently, a new method of J/psi(gamma) production at the EIC has been proposed to extract poorly known color-octet NRQCD long-distance matrix elements. The proposed method involves comparison to open heavy-quark pair production and two alternative methods are also suggested.
