Zinc borates as multifunctional polymer additives

Zinc borates function as flame retardant, smoke suppressant, afterglow suppressant, and anti-tracking agent in both halogen-containing and halogen-free polymers. This paper will review 35 years of historical development and recent advances in the use of these multifunctional fire retardants in electrical/electronic, transportation, and building product applications. In addition, the use of zinc borates as polymer additives for non-flame retardant applications will also be briefly reviewed. Copyright (C) 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
