A functionalized ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) was prepared using suspension grafting. This copolymer was used as a compatibilizer of blends of polyamide1010 (PA1010) and UHMWPE. Compared to the PA1010/UHMWPE blends, mechanical properties such as tensile strength, Young's modulus, Izod notched strength and wear resistance of PA1010/UHMWPE/UHMWPE-g-AMPS blends were improved distinctly. Morphologies were examined by a scanning electron microscope. It was found that the dimension of UHMWPE domains in the PA1010 matrix decreased dramatically, compared with that of uncompatibilized blending system. Thermal properties of PA1010/UHMWPE /UHMWPE-g-AMPS blends were studied with differential scanning calorimery. Friction and wear properties of PA1010/UHMWPE/UHMWPE-g-AMPS blends were investigated.
