Summary: Functionalized graphene-polymer nanocomposites have been widely studied for their enhanced properties, but their current applications are limited by the multi-step processes or hazardous reducing agents required for functionalization. This study presents a single-step method for synthesizing thermally reduced graphene oxide (TrGO) using shellac, which shows promise for potential applications in biomedical devices. At a filler loading of 1.5%, the PVA-TrGO nanocomposite exhibited significantly improved mechanical and thermal properties, as well as enhanced antibacterial effectiveness compared to neat PVA.

Summary: In this study, PVA/GO composites were prepared using the freezing-thawing method, with investigations on their morphology, chemical structure, viscoelastic properties, and absorption of a cationic dye. The results showed that increasing the concentration of GO led to significant improvements in the properties of the composites, particularly in terms of absorption capacity. A correlation between absorption, swelling, and viscoelastic properties was proposed for the PVA/GO composites.

Summary: The role of graphene on indentation and scratch properties of soda lime silicate (SLS) glass is investigated in this study. It is found that graphene-coated glass has higher nanohardness and reduced modulus, as well as improved nanoscratch resistance. Furthermore, graphene can reduce subsurface damage and increase Vickers hardness and indentation fracture toughness of the glass.

Summary: The study focuses on the efficient electrosorption of U(VI) from uranium-containing wastewater using polyvinyl alcohol/graphene oxide composite electrodes, with PVA/GO-4 showing the best performance. The Langmuir model and first-order model are suitable for predicting the adsorption behavior, with U(VI) reaching a capacity of 333.0 mg/g at 0.9 V. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirm the electrosorption mechanism.

Summary: The present study describes an environmentally friendly and economically feasible method for synthesizing graphene oxide (GO) using agricultural waste, specifically oak fruit. The resulting agricultural waste-derived GO (AGO) is used as a reinforcing filler in the production of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) polymer nanocomposites. The addition of AGO significantly improves the mechanical and thermal properties of PVA, making it a promising material for structural applications.

Summary: Graphene is widely used in heat dissipation due to its high in-plane thermal conductivity and excellent mechanical properties. However, its poor cross-plane thermal conductivity limits its use in certain electronic applications. In this study, fluorinated graphene oxide (FG) with high thermal conductivity is prepared by grafting F atoms onto the surface of graphene oxide using poly(vinylidene fluoride) as a fluorine source. By avoiding the use of dangerous substances such as HF and F-2, FG can be synthesized effectively. The FG is then used to create a FG/PVA composite film with enhanced thermal conductivity, suitable for thermal management in flexible electronic devices.

Summary: Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/silver aluminium oxide (AgAlO2)@reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanocomposites (NCs) were fabricated as flexible supercapacitor electrodes using a solution casting approach. The NCs exhibited excellent electrochemical performance, wide operating potential windows, high specific capacitance, energy density, and power density, as well as negligible equivalent series resistance and charge transfer resistance. The addition of AgAlO2 NPs in the NCs showed better specific capacitance, providing a new approach for fabricating supercapacitor electrodes.

Summary: The micromechanical and tribological properties of titanium matrix composites reinforced with graphene oxide were studied using nanoindentation and nanoscratch methods. The results showed that increasing GO content and sintering temperature improved the nanohardness and elastic modulus of the composite, leading to enhanced elastic recovery and reduced friction coefficient at higher temperatures.

Summary: The ultrafine fibers of Poly Vinyl Alcohol (PVA) /Graphene Oxide (GO) composite were prepared by homemade electrospinning set-up with different concentrations of GO in PVA. The effect of GO concentrations in 10% PVA solution on the fiber diameter was investigated. Various analyses, including FTIR spectroscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy, SEM, and XRD, were conducted to analyze the functional groups, absorption peaks, morphology, and crystalline nature of the nanofibers. The results showed that increasing the concentration of GO in PVA led to a decrease in the diameter of the nanofibers.
