By combining both triptycene and multifunctional phthalocyanine components within a polymer of intrinsic microporosity (PIM), a polymer network of apparent BET surface of 806 m(2) g(-1) was obtained that appears to possess a highly rigid structure as determined from the shape of its nitrogen adsorption isotherm, which is similar in appearance to that of a crystalline microporous material such as a zeolite.
