Summary: The flexible N,N'-ditopic ligand 1,4-bis(4-pyridylmethyl)benzene (bpymb) combined with zinc(II) acetate (ZnAc) produces a two-dimensional coordination polymer with a layered structure, expanding the family of compounds involving zinc acetate and ditopic N,N'- ligands. The newly obtained coordination polymer was structurally characterized by single crystal XRD and exhibited increased photoluminescence properties compared to the free bpymb ligand.

Summary: In this study, a Pd-containing zeolite catalyst was synthesized via a one-pot hydrothermal technique for the hydrogenation of DEB. The results showed that this catalyst had better catalytic performance compared to the traditional Pd/C catalyst, mainly due to the smaller size, better dispersion, and more metallic Pd species of the Pd particles.

Summary: The development of synthetic approaches towards new mixed-ligand metal organic frameworks (MOFs) has been attracting considerable attention recently as they display fascinating properties due to the synergistic effect between the different ligands. In this study, the combination of pyridine-2,6-dimethanol (H(2)pdm) with benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (H(2)bdc) has successfully led to the synthesis of three new mixed-ligand MOFs, which are the first MOFs containing H(2)pdm in its neutral or anionic form. These MOFs exhibit different 2D and 3D topologies.

Summary: Three thermochromic materials (DC8, DC12, DC16) were synthesized by linking the rigid bpeb with different lengths of alkyl chains, showing remarkable fluorescent color changes under 365 nm light irradiation with temperature elevation, along with photochromic character in DC16. Differential scanning calorimetry measured phase transition temperatures higher than fluorescence color change temperatures, attributing the allochroic effect to the synergistic action of heating and photo-inducement. Reversibility of thermochromic behavior and fluorescence recovery were demonstrated by ethanol treatment.

Summary: This study introduces a noninvasive method using complex electrical conductivity to characterize streambed sediment physical properties, demonstrating the sensitivity of imaginary conductivity to sediment surface area and validating the relationships through laboratory and field measurements. Results show that the inverted sediment imaginary conductivity is less impacted by uncertainty in water layer depth and conductivity compared to real conductivity, providing a more accurate assessment of sediment properties.

Summary: Dehydrogenative cross-coupling between pyridine and benzene was selectively achieved using a TiO2 photocatalyst under visible light irradiation at optimized concentrations of the substrates. The reaction involves ligand-to-metal charge transfer between pyridine and TiO2 to generate pyridine radical cation which attacks benzene to form an sp(2)C-sp(2)C bond. Selective excitation of the pyridine LMCT complex in the presence of excess benzene is crucial for higher selectivity.
