Summary: The study aimed to investigate the associations between parent-reported sleep characteristics and adiposity levels in young children in a biethnic sample. The results showed that sleep timing is associated with total and central adiposity, but the associations vary by age group and ethnicity. It suggests that sleep onset times and regular sleep schedules may be important for obesity prevention.

Summary: The study aimed to use machine learning classifiers to identify increased suicide risk in Brazilians with common mental disorders. Several models were developed using clinical and sociodemographic baseline data from a large Brazilian community sample. The Random Forests model performed the best, followed by Naive Bayes and Elastic Net. Depression symptoms were found to be the most relevant features for identifying increased suicide risk.

Summary: The study found that children watching TV for more than 2 hours per day were associated with increased risk of obesity, higher body mass index z score, and increased waist circumference. However, there was little evidence to support the moderating role of parental education and child ethnicity on this association.

Summary: This study examined the psychometric properties of the traditional Chinese version of the Youth Attitude to Noise Scale (YANS) in a large representative sample, finding it to be a feasible instrument to assess attitude to noise in Chinese adolescents, regardless of gender and age. The scale showed high reliability, a general factor, scale multidimensionality, and gender and age invariance, with researchers recommended to consider research objectives when deciding whether to use total or subscale scores.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between religiosity and violence in childhood, and finds that individuals who experience less violence in childhood tend to be more religious in adulthood. However, religiosity does not act as a mediator between childhood and adulthood violence.

Summary: In a nationally representative sample of community-dwelling older adults in the United States, 17% of dementia cases were attributable to moderate or greater audiometric hearing loss, an estimate that is eightfold higher relative to studies relying on self-reported hearing measures only.

Summary: This study explored the relationship between infants' height and various demographic factors in Romania. The findings showed that several factors, such as rural living, preterm birth, age 18-23 months, unmarried mothers, anemia, lack of minimum dietary diversity (MDD), and being third or later born in the family, were significantly associated with lower height-for-age z-scores (HAZ). On the other hand, higher maternal socioeconomic status (SES) and older maternal age were associated with higher HAZ.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the association between COVID-19 pandemic exposure and suicide attempt rates. The findings suggest that there is a negative association between the interval exposed to the COVID-19 pandemic and the risk of suicide attempts. However, the projections indicate that the suicide attempt rate may increase 10 months after lifting social mitigation policies.

Summary: This study, based on data from Ghana, explored the use of unimproved drinking water and sanitation facilities and found that this was associated with demographic factors. The results showed a prevalent use of unimproved drinking water and sanitation facilities. Therefore, appropriate measures should be implemented to achieve the government's set goals.

Summary: This study examines the differences in multimorbidity between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous Australians, and how it affects health service use and work productivity. The results show that Aboriginal respondents have a higher prevalence of multimorbidity, especially mental-physical multimorbidity. Multimorbidity is associated with increased health service use, reduced employment productivity, and lower perceived health status. These associations hold true for both Aboriginal and non-Indigenous populations.

Summary: The objective of this study was to examine the association between the number of meals per day and overweight, obesity, and central obesity. The results showed that there was no association between the number of meals per day and these health issues in children, but in adults, a higher number of meals per day was inversely associated with overweight, obesity, and central obesity.

Summary: Comparing chemical and histopathological data with clinical progression in OSCC patients reveals potential biomarkers for tumor aggressiveness and prognosis. Enzymes related to oxidative stress and DNA repair play a crucial role in tumor growth and relapse, while trace elements may serve as disease prognosis markers. Targeting these factors could lead to novel therapeutic strategies for managing OSCC.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between glucose and insulin levels and NR3C1 gene methylation in adults. The results showed that age and NR3C1 gene methylation were directly related to glucose levels and insulin resistance, while not being overweight and obese, and not smoking were indirectly related to glucose levels and insulin resistance. The findings suggest that habits and lifestyle may influence the regulation of the NR3C1 gene.

Summary: To address the issues of weed infestation and herbicide resistance, the authors synthesized eight isatin derivatives using Click Chemistry. These derivatives were evaluated for their phytotoxic activity against two model plants, Lactuca sativa and Allium cepa. Six derivatives showed similar activity to the positive control trifluralin, with compound 8 being more active than trifluralin in L. sativa. ALS crystallographic structure analysis revealed the inhibitory activity of compounds 11 and 17 against A. cepa.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the association between DNAm levels in BDNF promoter IV and verbal learning and memory performance in healthy women. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 53 individuals, and episodic memory was assessed using the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT). The results showed that DNAm at CpG site 5 was significantly associated with learning capacity, with a 0.068 reduction in verbal learning performance for every 1% increase in DNAm at CpG site 5.
