Summary: This study analyzed RNA and miRNA sequencing profiles of lymphoblastoid cell lines from children diagnosed with autistic disorder and controls, and identified numerous differentially expressed genes and miRNAs between the two groups. Functional enrichment analysis revealed critical pathways involved in ASD, and the integration analysis showed dysregulated miRNA-gene pairs. These findings suggest altered mRNA and miRNA expression profiles in ASD and provide insights into the regulatory mechanisms of key pathways.

Summary: Merino sheep exhibit high wool production and quality, with the fleece predominantly composed of wool fibers grown from hair follicles (HFs). This study aimed to identify key miRNAs and target genes related to HF development by analyzing mRNA and miRNA binding. Through analyzing miRNA data from 18 Merino sheep, 87 differentially expressed miRNAs were identified, providing new insights into fundamental mechanisms that regulate cellular activity and cell fate decisions within and outside of the skin.

Summary: This study investigates the potential mechanisms of small RNAs in plant height heterosis by integrative analysis of sequencing data from multi-omics layers in maize hybrids and their parental lines. The results show that non-additively expressed microRNAs regulate plant height heterosis by activating genes involved in vegetative growth pathways and suppressing genes related to reproductive and stress response pathways. Non-additively expressed siRNA clusters induce non-additive methylation events. Low-parental expression siRNAs and trans-chromosomal demethylation events are associated with developmental processes and nutrients and energy metabolism, while high-parental expression siRNAs and trans-chromosomal methylation events are enriched in stress response and organelle organization pathways.

Summary: MicroRNAs play important roles in regulating gene expression at the posttranscriptional level, including controlling body color differentiation in animals. This study sequenced miRNAs from leopard coral groupers' skin samples, identifying differentially expressed miRNAs and miRNA-mRNA pairs related to functions like endocrine systems and lipid metabolism in body color formation. The research sheds light on the potential role of miRNAs in fish body color selection and provides a molecular foundation for understanding epigenetics in this process.

Summary: Interspecific hybridization improves cotton fiber quality by addressing parental genetic diversity bottleneck problems. An integrated analysis of phenotypes, mRNAs, and miRNAs was conducted to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying fiber heterosis in interspecific hybrid cotton. The results showed that fiber heterosis was most obvious at 10 days post anthesis, with transgressive up-regulation observed at the mRNA level and transgressive down-regulation at the miRNA level. MiR160-ARF and miR319-TCP pairs played a crucial role in endogenous auxin content and secondary cell wall deposition, thereby contributing to interspecific fiber heterosis. This study provides insights into the regulation of fiber heterosis by miRNA-mRNA and has implications for the application of interspecific hybrid cotton.

Summary: MicroRNA miR166 plays a pivotal role in regulating plant height in soybean. Knockdown of miR166 resulted in reduced plant height and lower levels of bioactive gibberellic acid. Further analysis revealed that miR166 regulates genes involved in gibberellic acid biosynthesis and catabolism.

Summary: Hypertension, the most common chronic disease, can benefit from early diagnosis for early medical intervention. The miRNA-mRNA network shows potential as diagnostic markers for hypertension. Through analysis of gene expression data, 123 mRNAs enriched in 161 Gene Ontology terms and 14 KEGG pathways were identified as hypertension-related genes. Additionally, 35 differentially expressed miRNAs were found. Integrated analysis revealed 36 miRNA-mRNA pairs, with KIAA0513, ARID3A, LRPAP1, and hsa-miRNA-5589-5p identified as key genes and potential diagnostic biomarkers. These findings have clinical applications, aiding in the early detection and intervention of hypertension.

Summary: The study analyzed the miRNA-mRNA interaction network in host Trifolium repens in response to parasitism by Cuscuta australis, revealing a plethora of miRNAs and DEGs that shed light on the interactions between plants during parasitism. The most significantly affected pathways by parasitism were plant hormone signal transduction, ribosome, and plant-pathogen interaction pathways. The identified miRNA-mRNA pairs likely play crucial roles in the interactions between host T. repens and parasitic C. australis.

Summary: Personalized management of neuropathic pain is a clinical need that has not been fulfilled due to various factors. Recent studies on microRNA have provided insights into pain-related mechanisms and identified potential drug candidates. By generating a molecular profile of the epidermis in patients with sodium channel-related painful neuropathy, the researchers identified specific miRNAs and mRNA targets that are involved in peripheral sensory transduction and modulation. The findings suggest a complex interaction between epidermal cells and axons in neuropathy pain. This targeted molecular profiling could advance personalized medicine for neuropathic pain.
