Summary: The study aimed to investigate the trajectories of metabolic parameters after bilateral oophorectomy. The results showed significant differences in weight, body mass index (BMI), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) among the three groups. Although there were baseline differences, the changes primarily occurred in the initial 4-5 years. Women who received estrogen therapy after bilateral oophorectomy had similar weight and BMI trends as the control group and experienced an increase in HDL-C over time.

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between element levels and the risk of metabolic syndrome in perimenopausal women. The results showed that low blood potassium levels were associated with an increased risk of metabolic syndrome, while higher copper levels were observed in overweight women, negatively correlating with total cholesterol, LDL, and systolic blood pressure.

Summary: Various metabolic disorders associated with decreased estradiol (E2) during menopause contribute to excessive fat accumulation in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. This is caused by abnormalities in lipid metabolism and serum lipid levels, resulting in downregulation of genes related to energy metabolism and fatty acid oxidation. These abnormalities also extend to bone marrow, where genes regulating lipid metabolism and adipogenesis play a role. Investigating these abnormalities and their underlying genes can help identify therapeutic targets for bone loss and osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

Summary: Metabolic syndrome is more prevalent in postmenopausal women, who also have a higher prevalence of hypovitaminosis D. Several cross-sectional studies have shown an inverse association between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations and MetSyn. However, there is a lack of randomized controlled trials investigating the effect of vitamin D intake on biomarkers and prevalence of MetSyn.

Summary: This study aims to identify microRNAs (miRs) that may act as markers of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and evaluate the changes in miR expression resulting from whole-body cryotherapy treatments. It has been shown that miR-23a-3p and miR-197-3p are accurate markers of MetS and its risk factors, while miR-15a-5p and miR-23a-3p are precise markers of body composition disorders. Whole-body cryotherapy treatment effectively up-regulates miR-15a-5p and lowers glucose levels in young and postmenopausal women, and down-regulates miR-197-3p expression in postmenopausal women, making it a potential adjunctive treatment method for MetS and hyperglycemia.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of Christian Orthodox fasting on body composition, dietary intake, and metabolic syndrome in postmenopausal women. The findings showed that fasting women had higher fat free mass, hip circumference, and diastolic blood pressure. They also consumed less fat, saturated and unsaturated fat, trans fatty acids, and cholesterol. Non-fasters had a higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its components. Overall, periodic abstinence from certain foods may protect postmenopausal women from metabolic syndrome.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the changes of abdominal adipose tissue volumes and ratios after a 15-week structured resistance training intervention. Sixty-five postmenopausal women with vasomotor symptoms and low physical activity were randomly assigned to either a supervised resistance training group or a control group. The study found that women who participated in the resistance training had significantly different reductions in subcutaneous adipose tissue, visceral adipose tissue, total abdominal adipose tissue, and fat ratio compared to the control group.

Summary: This study evaluated the associations between urinary phthalate biomarkers and visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue. The findings showed positive associations between certain phthalate biomarkers and visceral adipose tissue three years later, as well as a positive association between another phthalate biomarker and subcutaneous adipose tissue. The study provides supportive evidence for the relationship between phthalate compounds and abdominal fat accumulation, contributing to a better understanding of the link between obesity and chronic diseases.

Summary: In young children, higher percentage of brown adipose tissue is associated with lower body mass index and reduced abdominal adipose tissue compartment volumes. The presence of BAT may have a protective effect against ectopic fat accumulation and fatty liver, contributing to a more favorable metabolic profile.

Summary: Cholecystolithiasis is a common gastrointestinal disorder that often requires surgery, but it carries the risk of iatrogenic bile duct injury, which is a severe complication. In this study, we analyzed the frequency of bile duct injuries and how they were managed in our facility. We found that women were primarily affected, with acute cholecystitis being the main indication for surgery. The most common complication was injury to the common bile duct, and the most common repair procedure was Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy. Early complications were experienced by half of the patients, and the overall mortality rate was 22.7%.

Summary: This study analyzed the correlation between the third dose of COVID-19 vaccination and the dynamics of IgG anti-SARS-CoV-2 spike protein antibody levels in a group of healthy individuals. The results showed that IgG levels were significantly higher and less variable after the second booster vaccination compared to the first booster. The antibody levels were positively correlated with females, healthcare workers, the elderly, and participants with a negative COVID-19 history.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the persistent changes in microvascular parameters based on OCTA in patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 bilateral pneumonia. We found significantly decreased vessel density (VD) in SCP in COVID-19 patients, as well as decreased VD in DCP and CC, with increased VD in FCC. Gender differences were also observed, with decreased foveal VD in SCP and DCP in women compared to men, while increased FAZ area in SCP and superior VD in SCC were found in women. In conclusion, persistent changes in OCTA ocular parameters were noticed in COVID-19 patients.

Summary: This study aimed to monitor the changes in balance expression during the therapeutic process in children aged 8-12 with postural disorders. The evaluation of spine shape and equilibrium reactions showed that children with shape-of-spine disorders had lower efficiency in equilibrium reactions compared to those without disorders. The application of neurophysiological methods in treatment improved equilibrium reactions in these patients.

Summary: The study found that the Lee formula based on three-dimensional ultrasonographic TVol is comparable to the Hadlock I formula in estimating fetal weight before delivery in term pregnancies. There was no significant difference in the proportion of newborns with estimated birth weights within +/- 10% of actual weights between the two formulas, but there was a significant difference in the proportion within +/- 5%.
