Summary: In this study, single-trait and multi-trait genome-wide association studies were performed to investigate the genetics of chest circumference, abdominal circumference, and waist circumference in Duroc pigs. A novel quantitative trait locus on Sus scrofa chromosome one was identified, and 21 significant SNPs associated with the three conformation traits were identified through multi-trait GWAS. Furthermore, three candidate genes related to sphingolipid metabolism and lysosome pathways were discovered.

Summary: In this study, the metabolite production of a large population of the fungal pathogen of wheat, Zymoseptoria tritici, was analyzed. Significant variation in metabolite abundance among different isolates was found. By integrating whole-genome sequencing data, metabolite genome-wide association mapping was performed to identify loci underlying variation in metabolite production. The study provides a significant resource for unraveling the genetic basis of metabolome diversity within a species.

Summary: In this study, the GSB resistance of cucumber core germplasms from four geographic groups was investigated at the seedling and adult stages. Multiple SNPs related to GSB resistance were identified, some of which co-localized with previously mapped QTLs. Haplotype analysis and expression levels after inoculation led to the identification of four candidate genes. These findings contribute to the breeding of GSB resistant cucumber cultivars and provide insights into GSB resistance mechanism.

Summary: Backfat thickness (BFT) is an economically important trait in the pig industry, and genetic markers and candidate genes related to BFT were identified through genotyping and genome-wide association analysis in two Duroc populations. Most candidate genes can be directly used for genetic improvement through molecular markers. New insights gained from this study will contribute to genetic studies aiming to increase carcass lean meat percentage in pigs.

Summary: The Markhoz goat, a breed known for its high-quality mohair, has experienced a significant decline in population size in Iran due to decreased income from goat production. This study aimed to identify genomic regions associated with litter size at birth (LSB) and weaning (LSW) in Markhoz goats using a genome-wide association study (GWAS). The results identified several SNPs on chromosomes 2, 20, and 21 that were significantly associated with LSB, and six candidate genes in the identified region were also identified.

This study identified 34 QTLs associated with grain chalkiness in 450 rice accessions through a genome-wide association analysis. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the genetic basis of grain chalkiness and provide gene resources for quality improvement in rice through molecular breeding.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the genetic basis of litter traits in pigs, identifying valuable genes and genetic markers for pig breeding. Through a genome-wide association study, 76 significantly related SNPs and 10 potential candidate genes were detected, including 13 pleiotropic SNPs that affected multiple litter traits. Functional enrichment analysis indicated that significant pathways were associated with hormone secretion and embryo and organ development, providing new insights into improving litter quality in pigs.

By analyzing a diverse rice collection, several quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with PC were identified. The study also revealed the masking effects of major genes on minor genes and discovered novel QTLs. Additionally, a candidate gene, LOC_Os01g49830, encoding a RAV transcription factor, was identified as potentially responsible for PC in rice.

Summary: Obesity is a chronic health problem with increasing prevalence in the Western world. This study aimed to identify SNPs associated with obesity and overweight in males. A GWAS of 104 control, 125 overweight, and 61 obese subjects revealed five SNPs associated with obesity and overweight in males, with most of them found in genes regulating energy metabolism and homeostasis. These findings contribute to understanding the molecular mechanisms of obesity-related traits in males.

Summary: The domestication and subsequent selection of cattle led to the partitioning of ancestral genetic diversity into distinct modern lineages, with detectable genome-wide signatures of adaptation to extreme environments. The study identified the influence of Bos grunniens and Bos javanicus on the formation of Chinese indicine breeds and revealed introgression, admixture, and migration in most of the Chinese breeds. Selection signature analyses highlighted candidate genes and pathways involved in hypoxia adaptation, and suggested that high altitude adaptation involved introgression of alleles from high-altitude adapted yaks into Chinese Bos taurus taurus.
