Summary: Honeybee colonies are often fed with artificial sugar feeds for successful wintering. In this study, the effects of invert syrup and traditional sucrose as winter supplements were compared. No significant differences were found in the condition and honey production of colonies fed with either supplement. However, invert syrup was more expensive and therefore less economically efficient.

Summary: In this paper, a combined method of linear regression model and Kalman filter is proposed to reduce the influence of ambient temperature on bee colony weight monitoring. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated through monitoring data and compared with methods solely relying on statistic model or Kalman filter. The results show that the proposed method outperforms the other two methods in temperature drift removal, with over 40% reduction in mean absolute errors and variations during different periods.

Summary: Reviews on test-driven development (TDD) studies reveal that unobserved factors, such as tasks used in experiments, play a crucial role in the conflicting results reported. This study investigates the impact of task selection and development approach on external quality, finding that ITLD method and working on the Bowling Score Keeper task lead to higher quality code production by participants. These findings suggest that variables like task specification and developers' unit testing experience should be further explored in TDD experiments to improve real-world application and quality outcomes.

Summary: This article examines the impact of foreign acquisitions on industry peers' stock prices. The findings indicate that there is a significantly negative average stock price reaction when a foreign firm acquires a company in the same industry. The negative reactions are more pronounced in growing, less specialized, and competitive industries. Additionally, the negative stock price reactions of industry peers are associated with future declines in their operating performance.

Summary: This study aims to improve the assembly manufacturing process by combining value stream mapping (VSM) and ranked positional weight (RPW) to solve workload imbalances. An empirical study was conducted in a defense manufacturing firm located in Indonesia, focusing on 155 components and 56 tasks distributed among 43 assembly workstations in one weapon product. The results showed a significant reduction in total cycle time and improvements in assembly line balance. The application of VSM and RPW in the defense industry context provides valuable insights for other organizations and contributes to the advancement of literature in the field.

Summary: This paper develops an empirical production model to study the effects of global value chains (GVCs) on knowledge diffusion and productivity growth. The results indicate that ignoring industrial interactions leads to an overestimation of China's productivity growth and an underestimation for the US and Japan. The spillover effects of capital and intermediate inputs are significantly positive, with the spillovers of technical change accounting for a significant portion of total productivity growth.

Summary: This study investigates the geographical distribution of morphological and mitochondrial variation in Western honey bees in West and Central Africa. The findings indicate significant differences in the shape of the forewing among ecological zones and a correlation with latitude, longitude, and altitude. There was also a noticeable geographic pattern in the size of bees. The analysis of mitochondrial DNA identified four haplotypes, with limited overall haplotype diversity. Small bees predominantly had the A1 haplotype, while larger bees had either the A4 or A4' haplotype.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of individual sequencing (ind-seq) and pool sequencing (pool-seq) in inferring population genetic structure and diversity. The results showed that, if cost is not a limiting factor, ind-seq can provide similar population genetic structure inference with the advantage of individual genetic information. Additionally, it significantly reduces the effort required for sample collection and processing in the laboratory.

Summary: Insect production provides a sustainable source of nutrients for livestock, but there is a risk of pathogen transmission from insects to livestock, including viruses causing serious diseases. Experimental studies showed that ASFV DNA remained detectable in larvae of black soldier fly and mealworm for a certain period of time after exposure, but feeding pigs with larvae exposed to ASFV did not result in ASFV infection. Therefore, the risk of ASFV transmission through consumption of unprocessed insect larvae used as feed appears to be low.

Summary: In Norway, the overwintering behavior of the bird cherry-oat aphid Rhopalosiphum padi on the bird cherry tree Prunus padus was studied over a three-year period. A total of 3599 overwintering aphid eggs were found, with 59.5% of them being dead. Additionally, 879 overwintering fungus-killed cadavers were observed, which were infected with Zoophthora cf. aphidis or Entomophthora planchoniana. The study suggests that Prunus padus may serve as a reservoir for fungi infecting aphids in cereals during spring.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of different temperatures and rearing densities on cricket mortality, biomass, and AdDV abundance. Higher rearing densities and temperatures resulted in higher total biomass produced per rearing unit and a minor impact on mortality. The results indicate that high rearing density can increase AdDV abundance, and that viral abundance is reduced at 35℃.
