Summary: This study analyzed the associations between FTO, FABP2, LEP, LEPR, and MC4R gene polymorphisms and obesity-related parameters. The FTO A/T polymorphism was found to be significantly associated with fat mass index (FMI). In addition, gene-gene interaction analysis showed that all investigated genes had additional influence on body mass index (BMI) and FMI.

Summary: Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women worldwide, with obesity identified as a significant risk factor for breast cancer development in Polish women. However, the studied gene polymorphisms did not show a significant association with breast cancer risk or disease severity. Certain gene polymorphisms may affect receptor expression and disease severity, revealing a potentially important contribution to understanding the molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis.

Summary: This study investigated the association of leptin gene, leptin receptor gene, and peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma gene polymorphisms with humoral immune response to influenza vaccine. The results showed that PPARG rs17793951 variants were significantly associated with immune response to influenza vaccine. Gender differences were found in the association of LEPR and PPARG variants with immune response to influenza vaccine.

Summary: This study found a correlation between obesity and increased risk of bladder cancer. The levels of leptin and its receptor are often deregulated in obese individuals and these changes are associated with the development of bladder cancer. Additionally, certain genetic variants are also associated with bladder cancer.

Summary: This study aimed to identify a tumor malignancy signature associated with the regulation of HIF-1 alpha by microRNAs miR-21 and miR-326 in glioblastoma stem cells. The results showed that miR-21 had a high level of expression in the irradiated neurosphere group, suggesting its role in radioresistant neurospheres. miR-326 was associated with tumor recurrence in both groups, indicating that its positive regulation is independent of ionizing radiation treatment.
