Summary: This study found that circulating miR-26a-5p, miR-21-5p, and miR-191-5p levels were lower in patients who experienced major adverse cardiovascular events after acute myocardial infarction compared to those who did not. Multivariate conditional logistic regression analysis showed that these miRNAs were significantly inversely associated with incident primary composite outcomes. Combining these miRNAs with B-type natriuretic peptide improved risk scores recommended in the current guidelines.

Summary: This study demonstrates that certain miRNAs reach peak time earlier than conventional biomarkers in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and show a shorter time window, making them more promising biomarkers. Within 4 hours of onset of symptoms, miRNAs exhibit the most potential as biomarkers. Combining miRNAs or miRNAs with traditional biomarkers can improve the accuracy of early AMI diagnosis.

Summary: Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) are RNA molecules that have tissue-specific expression and lack protein-coding potential. Aberrant expression of ncRNAs is critical in disease onset and development, making them promising biomarkers for prognosis and diagnosis. Compared to standard biomarkers, ncRNAs, such as miRNAs and lncRNAs, provide better sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing acute myocardial infarction (AMI), leading to earlier treatment and better prognosis for patients. This review summarizes and discusses the potential clinical use of circulating ncRNAs as MI biomarkers, highlighting their specificity and sensitivity, limitations, and possible solutions.

Summary: The study found that specific miRNAs have significantly different expression in the plasma of SCAD and AT-AMI patients, and the combined expression of these four miRNAs can better distinguish between the two diseases. Functional analysis revealed an association of these miRNAs with blood vessel biology, TGF-beta pathway, and cytoskeletal traction force.

Summary: Myocardial infarction (MI) is a leading cause of death in Western countries. Early diagnosis and treatment is vital to reduce complications and improve outcomes. Non-coding RNAs, especially microRNAs, play a significant role in the pathological processes of MI and post-MI phases.

Summary: This study identified four promising exosomal miRNAs associated with large-artery atherosclerosis (LAA) stroke, the most common subtype of ischemic stroke, through high-throughput sequencing and qRT-PCR analysis. These miRNAs can serve as diagnostic biomarkers for LAA stroke, showing superior diagnostic efficiency compared to their plasma counterparts.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is a common type of cancer worldwide, and early diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment. Current blood biomarkers for CRC diagnosis are not accurate enough. Studies have found that specific miRNAs in extracellular vesicles can be used as noninvasive biomarkers for the screening and diagnosis of CRC.

Summary: Despite lacking an ideal biomarker for risk assessment in patients with AMI, recent studies have shown promising results. Several novel biomarkers related to the pathophysiological processes in AMI patients have been identified, and their inclusion in multi-biomarker strategies may provide additional prognostic value. Additionally, the use of artificial intelligence algorithms for risk stratification and prognostic assessment has the potential to significantly improve outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether the relative change between historical hs-cTnT and admission hs-cTnT could improve early identification of patients with a high risk of myocardial infarction (MI) in the emergency department (ED). The results showed that using historical hs-cTnT levels with admission hs-cTnT can improve early risk stratification of MI in the ED.

Summary: Early detection of EOC is crucial for improving survival rates. Exosomal miRNAs show promise as non-invasive biomarkers for early cancer detection, but stability, sensitivity, and selection of endogenous reference miRNAs are important considerations. Current clinical trials using miRNAs for EOC detection suggest their potential utility in the future.

Summary: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by respiratory symptoms. miRNAs have attracted scientific interest in relation to asthma for around 30 years. These small RNA fragments regulate gene expression and have potential roles in diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment prediction for asthma. This paper reviews the latest studies on miRNAs and highlights their usefulness in assessing treatment efficacy, early diagnosis of exacerbations, and patient compliance with asthma medications. It also suggests that targeting miRNA expression may be a future therapeutic approach for asthma.
