Summary: This study investigated the destabilization and reactivation process of an ancient landslide near Aniangzhai village in Danba County, Sichuan Province of Southwest China using satellite remote sensing techniques. The analysis revealed that the toe of the landslide was undercut, leading to erosion from overflow of the landslide dam and water release from a nearby hydropower station. In addition, changes in precipitation were found to be correlated with kinematics of motion in different parts of the landslide.

Summary: This study aims to analyze the causes of the debris flow disaster that occurred in Aizi gully, Ningnan County, Sichuan Province, China in 2012. Through field investigations and model calculations, it is found that earthquake and drought play a dominant role in debris flow initiation. The findings of this study can greatly facilitate the prevention and mitigation of future debris flow disasters.

Summary: Studies on outbreaks of COVID-19 showed that contamination from frozen seafood packaging could be a potential source of infection, highlighting the importance of considering the risks of virus transmission through cold chain goods. Countries should implement various measures to prevent the introduction of the virus via imported goods.

Summary: On June 1, 2022, an M(S)6.1 earthquake occurred in Lushan County, Sichuan Province, southwestern China. The earthquake sequence was studied using various methods to analyze the focal mechanisms, stability, and seismogenic structure. The results showed that the earthquakes were mainly along the Shuangshi-Dachuan fault, with a unilateral rupture characteristic and a fault plane dipping to the southeast. The mainshock focal mechanism was found to be reliable and the seismogenic structure was identified as a NE-striking blind thrust fault dipping towards the southeast.

Summary: Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever outbreaks occurred sporadically in Uganda during 2018-2019, with tick exposure identified as a major risk factor. The study recommends improved tick control in Uganda through national regulations on acaricide distribution, strategies to reduce tick resistance to acaricides, and more community-based engagement in tick control in livestock management.

Summary: The study investigated cutaneous anthrax cases in Arua District, Uganda from 2015 to 2017, finding that exposure to carcasses of animals that died suddenly was a significant risk factor for the disease. Recommendations include conducting burden of anthrax investigations in livestock, preventing animal infections through vaccinations, safe disposal of carcasses, public education on potential risk factors, and prompt treatment following exposure to infected animals.

Summary: This study investigated a large-scale outbreak caused by food contamination, resulting in over 200 cases of acute gastrointestinal and neurological symptoms. The research found that a batch of fortified corn-soy blend was associated with the illness. Further laboratory testing confirmed the presence of toxic alkaloids in the food, which was determined to be the cause of the outbreak.

Summary: Despite vaccination efforts, Uganda still reports a high incidence of non-neonatal tetanus. A retrospective record review was conducted to investigate the accuracy of reported data. The findings suggest a significant burden of non-NT cases and highlight the need for vaccination strategies and data quality improvement.
