Summary: This study investigates the role of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) in acute kidney injury (AKI), and finds that HIF expression is more rapid and sufficient in the adaptive repair group compared to the maladaptive repair group during the early repair phase. In cell experiments, HIF is found to promote renal repair by interacting with the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. This research highlights the importance of HIF in promoting adaptive repair in AKI.

Summary: The current study aimed to investigate the protective effects of rivastigmine in gentamicin-induced acute kidney injury. The results demonstrated that rivastigmine could ameliorate renal dysfunction by reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptotic reactions induced by gentamicin, and by decreasing the concentration of gentamicin in renal tissue.

Summary: Nuciferine effectively mitigates pathological changes and kidney dysfunction in mice with folic acid-induced acute kidney injury, as well as prevents RSL3-induced ferroptotic cell death in vitro. The protective effect of nuciferine against ferroptosis is associated with its ability to prevent iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation, as well as its interaction with GPX4.

Summary: This study found that the TRPM2 channel plays a protective role in cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury. Deficiency of TRPM2 exacerbates renal dysfunction, tubular injury, and cell apoptosis, while treatment alleviates these damages. In addition, TRPM2 deficiency hinders cisplatin-induced autophagy. These findings provide new insights into the pathogenesis of kidney injury.

Summary: This study investigated the potential of the selective CK2a inhibitor, TBBt, in sepsis-induced AKI. The results demonstrated that TBBt could reduce renal damage, alleviate inflammation, and inhibit apoptosis through the inactivation of MAPK and NF-?B signaling pathways. Therefore, inhibiting CK2a might be a promising therapeutic strategy for sepsis-induced AKI.

Summary: Late-stage anthrax infections involve dysregulated immune responses and hematogenous spread of Bacillus anthracis, leading to severe bacteremia, sepsis, organ failure, and death. Some fulminant anthrax patients develop a secondary atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS). By studying baboons challenged with PGN, a pathogen-associated molecular pattern responsible for hemostatic dysregulation in anthrax sepsis, researchers found that C5 neutralization can prevent hemolysis and kidney injury induced by PGN. This study identifies PGN-driven complement activation as the pathologic mechanism underlying hemolytic anemia in anthrax and other gram-positive infections.

Summary: Recently, the clinical incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) has been increasing, leading to rapid decline in renal function and massive tubular cell necrosis. In this study, the researchers explored the role of Buffalin in regulating AKI through the pyroptosis pathway. Animal and cell models of AKI were established, and various indicators related to renal injury and pyroptosis were analyzed. The results showed that Buffalin attenuated pyroptosis-induced AKI by inhibiting the NLRP3 inflammasome.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of contrast media (CM) viscosity on renal tubules using a kidney-on-a-chip model. The results showed that under static and low-to-moderate shear stress conditions, low-osmolar contrast media (LOCM) induced more cell injury compared to iso-osmolar contrast media (IOCM). However, under high shear stress conditions, there was no difference in cell injury between LOCM and IOCM.

Summary: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is becoming increasingly common among hospitalized patients worldwide. Community-acquired AKI (CA-AKI) and hospital-acquired AKI (HA-AKI) have different incidence rates, with CA-AKI patients experiencing worse short- and long-term outcomes. CA-AKI patients have higher 30-day and 1-year mortality rates, and a greater number of patients develop kidney failure requiring replacement therapy.
