Summary: The pathophysiologic mechanisms of the lateral pterygoid muscles (LPMs) and the trigeminal system related to Parkinson's Disease (PD)-induced orofacial manifestations were investigated. The study found that hemiparkinsonism increased slow skeletal myosin fibers in the LPMs, while in dyskinetic rats, these fibers decreased in the contralateral side of the lesion. Activation of the spinal trigeminal nucleus may be associated with orofacial sensorial impairment in Parkinsonian rats, while a fatigue profile on LPMs is suggested in L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia when the motor and facial nucleus are activated.

Summary: This study developed and validated a prediction model for HBsAg loss in HBeAg-negative chronic hepatitis B patients over a 3-year horizon. Factors associated with increased HBsAg loss included older age, race, HBV genotype, and HBV-DNA levels. The HBRN SQuARe score accurately predicted HBsAg loss and can be useful in patient care and counseling.

Summary: This study used QuantiFERON (TM) (QFN) and Activation-Induced Marker (AIM) assays to measure memory T-cell reactivity in unvaccinated individuals with prior symptomatic infection and fully vaccinated asymptomatic donors. The results showed that there was substantial agreement between QFN and AIM assays in convalescents. The frequency of AIM(+) CD4(+) T-cells correlated with IFN-gamma concentrations, antibody levels, and AIM(+) CD8(+) T-cell frequencies.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of NOTCH signaling on virus-induced immunotherapy. The results showed that NOTCH signaling was significantly correlated with myeloid cell infiltration, and NOTCH-activated macrophages promoted the secretion of CCL2 in the tumor microenvironment, leading to the expansion of myeloid-derived suppressor cells. Pharmacologic blockade of NOTCH signaling improved the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment and activated a CD8-dependent antitumor memory response, resulting in therapeutic benefits.

This retrospective cohort study found that as of July 2022, the reinfection risk of SARS-CoV-2 remained substantially lower for children and adolescents compared with adults, and pediatric infections were generally mild. Reinfections were even milder than primary infections.
