Background: Apoptosis is thought to play a role in the pathogenesis of severe dengue and the release of cell-free DNA into the circulatory system in several medical conditions. Therefore, we investigated circulating DNA as a potential biomarker for severe dengue. Methods and Findings: A direct fluorometric degradation assay using PicoGreen was performed to quantify cell-free DNA from patient plasma. Circulating DNA levels were significantly higher in patients with dengue virus infection than with other febrile illnesses and healthy controls. Remarkably, the increase of DNA levels correlated with the severity of dengue. Additionally, multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that circulating DNA levels independently correlated with dengue shock syndrome. Conclusions: Circulating DNA levels were increased in dengue patients and correlated with dengue severity. Additional studies are required to show the benefits of this biomarker in early dengue diagnosis and for the prognosis of shock complication.

Acute hepatitis of unknown origin in children: Behind the statistics

Randa Elsheikh, Hoang Thuy Tien, Abdelrahman M. Makram, Nguyen Thanh Van, Trang Thi Bich Le, Tamilarasy Vasanthakumaran, Nguyen Tien Huy

Summary: Since April 2022, there has been a rapidly spreading outbreak of acute hepatitis of unknown origin in children under 16 years old in multiple countries. Adenovirus serotype 41 has been identified as the most likely cause of the disease. However, further investigations are being carried out to explain the severity of the clinical presentation, which is not typical for this type of virus.

Summary: The emergence of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant has caused global distress. It shows multiple sublineages and is highly transmissible with reduced detection by current tests. The effectiveness of vaccines against Omicron and Delta variants is low, but they still provide protection against severe disease. The severity of illness may be higher in the Omicron sublineage BA.2. Further research is needed to understand the complexity of Omicron and improve its management and prevention.

Summary: Chronic atypical neutrophilic dermatosis with lipodystrophy and elevated temperature syndrome is a rare, hereditary, autoinflammatory disease. This systematic review summarizes the current evidence and reveals that fever, skin lesions, and systemic inflammatory response are the prominent features of this syndrome, with clinical symptoms and pathological findings playing a crucial role in diagnosis and treatment.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the accuracy of the International Academy of Cytology (IAC) Yokohama system in diagnosing breast cancer in a Vietnamese oncology center. The study evaluated 803 patients' FNAB specimens and calculated the risk of malignancy and other diagnostic indicators for different classification categories. The findings suggest that the IAC Yokohama system is a simple and cost-effective method for predicting breast pathology.

Summary: This study surveyed the public's knowledge, attitude, perception, and practice (KAPP) toward COVID-19 during the rise of the Delta variant outbreak in Ho Chi Minh City. The results showed that medical staff had higher KAPP scores compared to the non-medical group, and there were positive correlations between knowledge and practice, attitude and practice, and perception and practice. The study emphasized the importance of citizens' KAPP in addition to government directives and policies during the pandemic.

Summary: While the barriers to evidence-based practice adoption among nurses have been well-identified, the specific role of nurse leaders in influencing and supporting evidence-based nursing is not well-demonstrated. This opinion piece explores the potential factors influencing the implementation of evidence-based practice into clinical routine and the contribution of nursing leadership styles in contemporary healthcare settings.

Prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of an infant's life and associated factors in a low-middle income country

Summary: Despite the high prevalence of breastfeeding in Vietnam, exclusive breastfeeding in the first six months remains low. Factors such as maternal education level, male infants, duration of skin-to-skin contact, and intention for exclusive breastfeeding during pregnancy are associated with higher rates of exclusive breastfeeding. Protecting mothers against infant formula advertising is crucial for promoting exclusive breastfeeding.
