Summary: This study presents the experimental research results on the acoustic and electrical characteristics of underwater spark discharges facilitated by a preliminary discharge. The preliminary discharge was induced by applying a short duration high-voltage pulse from a Marx generator. It was found that this method could increase the interelectrode gap and generate stronger shocks. The temporal development of transient discharges in a long gap and the relationships between the hydrodynamic and electrical parameters were reported and analyzed.

Summary: In this article, a high-voltage underwater arc discharge system is proposed for the inactivation of E. coli bacteria. The system consists of a high-voltage capacitor charger and a discharge circuit, which are designed to protect and ensure stable operation of the arc discharge. By using a two-step spark gap scheme and an ultrafast high-voltage trigger circuit, the system can operate independently of water conductivity. The experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed system in achieving complete inactivation of E. coli bacteria in a short treatment time.

Summary: In this study, the impact of an external axial magnetic field on helium plasma jet and plasma-activated water was investigated. It was found that the external magnetic field significantly enhances the brightness and length of the ionization wave of the plasma jet, while also increasing the concentration of reactive oxygen species in water. Additionally, the vitality of melanoma cells decreases under the influence of the magnetic field. The findings suggest that the external magnetic field could be beneficial in improving the effectiveness of plasma jet applications.

Summary: This paper investigates the RLC parameters of the underwater discharge system and their equivalent circuit, illustrating the relationship between the parameters and discharge modes and energy. The analysis shows that the relative relationship of system equivalent RLC parameters determines the discharge mode, while impedance matching between the discharge channel and external circuit determines discharge energy.

Summary: In this study, the evolution of a cylindrical gaseous bubble produced by an underwater electrical discharge is analyzed theoretically and validated by experiments. The research reveals that if the bubble length is multiples of half a wavelength, the internal gas wave can evolve into a stable standing wave. Moreover, the internal acoustic standing wave causes a synchronous small-amplitude oscillation of the bubble surface. Finally, a novel method to estimate the plasma pressure is proposed based on the research findings.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy of direct and indirect cold plasma treatment on banana crown rot, and its effect on the physicochemical properties of the fruit. Results indicated that the rot index of the direct and indirect treatments were similar to the use of fungicide to preserve the fruit over time.

Summary: The study used low power low frequency argon plasma to treat the surface of polystyrene films and found that treatment for 3 minutes under specific conditions significantly improved hydrophilicity and stabilized at a certain water contact angle value. Oxygen was observed to be the main functional group added to the surface, possibly sourced from residual water vapor.

Summary: A kinetic model of a non-equilibrium water vapor plasma created by a nanosecond pulsed discharge at elevated temperatures and at low pressure is presented. Simulation results show good agreement with experimental data, revealing that the decay of plasma in pure water vapor is controlled by dissociative recombination and the formation of vibrationally excited species can be observed.

Summary: This study investigates water treatment using plasma activation and ozonation methods for maleic acid and fumaric acid. The results show that plasma treatment is more efficient than ozonation, and fumaric acid is more reactive than maleic acid. S-shaped degradation curves were observed when treating a mixture of maleic acid and fumaric acid, but not when using phenol instead of fumaric acid.

Summary: Plasmas on liquids have significant applications in various scientific fields. This study demonstrates the generation of an underwater shock wave using the pulsed surface discharge on water with the laser shadowgraph method. The results show that the shock wave generated by the discharge can be transmitted into the water, accelerating the reaction. These findings contribute to the understanding of mechanisms in decomposition, synthesis, and sterilization applications.

Summary: This paper presents the theoretical and experimental study of using pulsed discharge in water to generate strong acoustic waves in a liquid medium. A plasma model was developed to describe the formation of the discharge channel and to calculate the dynamics of the high-current channel and the resulting acoustic waves. The experimental results are in good agreement with the calculations.

Summary: This study compared the effects of nonthermal plasma treatment on quinine water solutions using two different configurations, and investigated the impact of adding different electrolytes and modifying initial pH on plasma discharge. The results showed that the gliding arc discharge achieved a slightly higher quinine decomposition rate, and that the stability of quinine solutions was influenced by the post-preparation time.

Summary: Improving the stability of underwater LIBS is crucial for its practical application in marine settings. This study compares three external normalization strategies using plasma acoustic signals, plasma images, and the combination of acoustic and image data. It is found that acoustic normalization is comparable to image normalization in reducing spectral fluctuation, while the acoustic-image combined normalization method is more efficient. These methods enhance the analytical performance of underwater LIBS.
