This commentary is part of the discussion on the use and misuse of contact angle measurements (CAM). Herein, I address the particular challenges of measuring contact angles on non-wetting surfaces. The importance of carefully carrying out CAM is outlined once again. The influence of experimental parameters on the measured contact angles and hysteresis is explained to illustrate the importance of communicating all experimental settings and conditions (such as pressure, droplet volume, dispense rate, time, relative humidity, and ambient temperature), in order to draw valid conclusions on the dominating wetting state from these measurements.
