Summary: Cellulose model compounds are widely used in cellulose research to study the polymer's properties. By synthesizing methyl 4-O-methyl beta-D-glucopyranoside derivatives with different substitution patterns, the solid-state structures of these compounds were determined using X-ray diffraction. Solid-state C-13 NMR measurements confirmed the influence of packing arrangement on the chemical shifts of the substituted carbons.

Summary: This study investigates the epidemiology and clinical outcomes of MCPA poisoning in Sri Lanka between 2002 and 2019, and analyzes the acute kidney injury in a subset of patients. The results show that MCPA poisoning can cause renal injury, but severe injury is uncommon. Patient age and ingested dose are associated with the severity of the condition, and most patients with renal dysfunction have no pre-existing kidney diseases.

Summary: This study explores the chemical space and structure-activity relationship of a previously identified HCV entry inhibitor, leading to the discovery of a new derived scaffold with higher anti-HCV activity. The active derivatives primarily inhibit the virus entry stage and may target the HCV El protein. Pharmacokinetic studies suggest that these compounds are orally available and long-lasting in rat plasma.

Summary: A new solvent/ligand-controlled switchable C-H arylation of 1-methyl-4-nitro-1H-indazole catalyzed by Pd(OAc)(2) was achieved. Activation at the C7 position was promoted by a bidentate ligand in DMA, while arylation at the C3 position was directed by a phosphine ligand in H2O. The C3 and C7 arylation products were obtained in moderate to good yields and with high regioselectivity.

Summary: In this report, an I-2/CuCl2-copromoted diamination of C(sp(3))-H bonds has been developed for the preparation of 2-acyl-4-aminoquinazolines. The reaction shows operational simplicity, mild conditions, commercially available substrates, and good functional group compatibility. Mechanistic studies suggest that CuCl2 plays a key role in this transformation, and the use of a methyl group as an input to construct 2-acyl-4-aminoquinazoline derivatives is reported for the first time.

Summary: In this study, a series of 4-methyl-3-(pyridin-2-ylamino)benzamide derivatives were designed and synthesized. Compound 9a showed significant inhibitory activity against c-Abl and a potent neuroprotective effect against MPP+-induced cell death. It also exhibited lower cell toxicity compared to nilotinib and had higher oral bioavailability and proper blood-brain barrier permeability.

Summary: This study demonstrates the successful synthesis of mono- and bis-phenyl derivatives of functionality-rich 2,6-diphenylpyrimidine substrates using a LED-activated, photoredox-mediated method. The phenylation at the ortho site(s) of the pyrimidine-C2-connected phenyl ring was found to be influenced by substituent-dependent electronic and steric effects. The generated library of derivatives shows promising features for evaluation in drug discovery efforts.

Summary: This work emphasizes the importance of investigating both on-target activity and antibiotic activity against critical pathogens. The authors focused on the 1-deoxy-d-xylulose 5-phosphate synthase (DXPS) as a potential new target and conducted virtual screening and activity studies. While no improvement in activity was observed in the synthesized derivatives, they found that the compounds showed good inhibition against Escherichia coli in their tests against various pathogens.

Summary: A Pd-catalyzed C(sp(3))-H functionalization reaction assisted by a calix[4]arene ligand has been developed for the direct beta-C-H arylation of tertiary aliphatic aldehydes. This strategy shows good functional group compatibility and C-H bond site-selectivity. Mechanistic studies suggest that both synergistic effect and cationic-pi supramolecular interaction between the calixarene cavity and transition-metal catalytic center may play important roles in this catalytic cycle. This complementary method is expected to have applications in organic and medical chemistry.

Summary: This study describes the direct photocatalytic synthesis of extremely weak element-hydrogen bonds of metal amido and metal imido complexes, as well as organic compounds with bond dissociation free energies as low as 31 kcal mol(-1). The key to this approach is the bifunctional behavior of the chromophoric iridium hydride photocatalyst, which enables the formation of weak chemical bonds near thermodynamic potential with no by-products. Photophysical and mechanistic studies corroborate radical-based reaction pathways and highlight the uniqueness of this photodriven approach in promoting new catalytic chemistry.
