Summary: Veterinary antibiotics contamination in agroecosystems is a global problem. This study aimed to evaluate the phytotoxic effects of oxytetracycline (OTC) and enrofloxacin (ENR) on wheat. The results showed that high concentrations of OTC and ENR had negative effects on root length, fresh weight, and surface area. Additionally, these antibiotics increased the activity of antioxidant enzymes and ABA levels in wheat seedlings.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of melatonin (MT) on wheat seed germination under salt stress at physiological and transcriptome levels. The findings showed that MT application reduced the negative influence of salt stress on seed germination by increasing antioxidant enzyme activity and altering phytohormone levels. RNA-seq analysis revealed changes in oxidoreductase activity and phytohormone-dependent signal transduction pathways. Weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA) identified enhanced energy metabolism and maintained cell morphology as mechanisms by which MT protected seeds under salt stress during wheat seed germination. The study provides insights into the regulatory mechanism of MT in plant adaptation to salt stress and identifies potential candidate genes for salt-tolerant wheat breeding.

Summary: Soil salinity restricts plant growth, and wheat is sensitive to toxic ions. Salt-tolerant varieties accumulate more toxic ions and ROS, leading to autophagy and programmed cell death. Induction of autophagosomes and mitophagy play important roles under salt stress.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of Pb(II) and Cu(II) ions on three plant species, namely Medicago sativa L., Triticum aestivum L., and Zea mays L. The comprehensive phytotoxicity assessments provide insights into the adaptability and resilience of these plant species to metal-contaminated environments. The findings have important implications for understanding plant-metal interactions and devising phytoremediation strategies in contaminated ecosystems.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of Se seed soaking on wheat and found that 12 hours of soaking with 2.5 mM Se positively affected germination and seedling traits without altering physiological responses and grain traits. Moreover, Se-treated plants displayed enhanced antioxidant capacity and biomass accumulation, especially under water-deficit conditions.

Summary: The study identified 71 transcription factors coexpressed with SSP genes in the endosperm of T. urartu, with TuNAC77 and TaNAC77 enhancing SSP gene transcription by binding to cis-elements in promoters. Knocking down TaNAC77 in common wheat resulted in a 24% reduction in total SSPs. This is the first genome-wide identification of transcriptional regulators of SSP genes in wheat.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of selected microalgae strains on germination ability and physiological processes in winter wheat plants. The results showed that different strains had varying impacts on germination, with some strains improving the process while others performed worse than the control. Microalgae biomass exhibited auxin-like activity, particularly in strain MACC-612, which had the highest level of indole-3-acetic-acid. Foliar spray of microalgae biomass did not significantly affect photosynthesis, but it did alter the composition of secondary metabolites and plant hormones. The application of certain microalgae strains can effectively improve wheat seed germination and modify acclimation processes in a genotype-dependent manner.

Summary: Genetic dissection of kernel weight-related traits has identified multiple stable and major effect QTLs on chromosomes associated with traits like thousand kernel weight, grain length, and grain width in wheat. Co-located loci for these traits were found on specific chromosome arms, with a novel co-located QTL associated with grain length and thousand kernel weight identified. These stable QTLs and linked markers provide valuable information for further refinement of mapping and marker-assisted selection breeding in improving wheat grain yield potential.

Summary: The absence of high-molecular-weight glutenin subunits (HMW-GSs) affects the expression of other storage substances and the regulation mechanism of HMW-GSs in wheat. Comparative transcriptomics and proteomics analysis were conducted on transgenic and non-transgenic wheat lines to explore changes in genes and proteins and the underlying regulatory mechanism. The results identified differential expression patterns in seed storage proteins and genes related to carbohydrate metabolism.
