Summary: Shoot branching, a crucial trait in rice, is regulated by auxins, cytokinins, and strigolactones. This study investigated the impact of different treatments on tiller and axillary bud development in rice and found that nutrient deficiency and exogenous strigolactone supply inhibit tiller outgrowth by reducing cytokinin content in the buds. The study also revealed that strigolactone promotes OsCKX gene expression in buds, indicating an antagonistic role of strigolactone with cytokinin in regulating bud outgrowth.

Summary: Systematic analysis of mutants of CKX family genes in rice reveals the inhibitory effects of CKX4 and CKX9 on tillering and the promoting effects of CKX1 and CKX2. This study provides new insights into the functions of CKX genes in rice growth and may contribute to improving rice yield in the future.

Summary: In this study, a new salt-induced ASR gene (OsASR6) in rice was identified and functionally characterized. Overexpression of OsASR6 enhanced salt and oxidative stress tolerance in rice plants by reducing H2O2, malondialdehyde (MDA), Na/K, and relative electrolyte leakage. Additionally, OsASR6 was found to interact with OsNCED1, a key enzyme in ABA biosynthesis.

Summary: The conjugation of phytohormones with glucose can be reversed rapidly by beta-glucosidases. Research on rice beta-glucosidases revealed their ability to hydrolyze phytohormone glucose esters, leading to improved growth under stress conditions in transgenic plants expressing these enzymes. The extracellular beta-glucosidases may modulate interactions between phytohormones.

Summary: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play important roles in regulating various plant processes by blocking the expression of target genes. In this study, the functional conservation and divergence of miR156 and miR529 were explored in rice. It was found that miR156 and miR529 respectively function dominantly in the vegetative stage and reproductive stage to control rice growth and development by regulating the accumulation of OsSPL14.

Summary: NF-YCs are important transcription factors in plants, with seed-specific expression. NF-YC8-12, with overlapping functions, were investigated in this study using the pentuple mutant pnfyc. The results showed that NF-YC8-12 play redundant roles in regulating grain quality and seed germination through the GA pathway.

Summary: The application of auxin (IAA and NAA) can enhance spikelet fertility and grain yield in rice plants under heat stress conditions. The increase in photosynthetic and transpiration rate, as well as the decrease in leaf temperature, contribute to the improvement in spikelet fertility and grain yield. The variation in spikelet fertility rate among genotypes depends on their tolerance rate.

Summary: The rice PHP genes have been identified as negative regulators of cytokinin signaling, affecting multiple aspects of plant growth and development. However, unlike Arabidopsis, disruption of the rice PHPs does not affect root vascular patterning.
