Summary: This study reveals that phytopathogen Pseudomonas syringae induces water soaking in plant leaf tissue by altering the regulation of abscisic acid (ABA), which leads to ABA signaling and stomatal closure. P. syringae achieves this by binding and inhibiting Arabidopsis type one protein phosphatases (TOPPs) that normally suppress ABA signaling. This hijacking of ABA signaling and stomatal closure are key mechanisms of disease susceptibility.

Summary: In this study, the researchers identified CbAR9 as the genetic locus responsible for resistance to Colletotrichum species in chili peppers. CbAR9 is a gene that encodes an NLR protein related to defense in other plant species, and its expression is significantly induced after infection by Colletotrichum capsici. Overexpression of CbAR9 in Nicotiana benthamiana led to enhanced resistance to C. capsici and increased expression of pathogenesis-related genes, while silencing CbAR9 in chili pepper fruits resulted in reduced resistance to anthracnose and decreased expression of PR1 and PR2 genes after infection. These findings highlight the role of CbAR9 in innate immunity against C. capsici.

Summary: Kac is a model for all acylation modification studies and is involved in six major biological functions. In this study, we investigated the acetylation modification of proteins in healthy and TSWV-infected N. benthamiana leaves. Our results showed that acetylation of proteins was significantly altered after the infection, with upregulated and downregulated sites. We also identified conserved motifs and found that most of the Kac proteins were located in the chloroplast and cytoplasm, participating in cellular and metabolic processes.

Summary: In this study, we identified and validated an ICE element (PmaICE-DQ) from Pseudomonas syringae pv. maculicola ES4326, demonstrating its ability to excise and conjugate across strains and highlighting the presence of multiple type III effector proteins. We also found another highly similar ICE element (PmaICE-AOAB) adjacent to PmaICE-DQ within the chromosome of strain ES4326, which also contains multiple type III effectors. Furthermore, our in planta experiments suggest that genomic plasticity associated with ICEs may enable strains to rapidly lose type III effectors that trigger R-gene mediated resistance.
