Their structures were determined using spectroscopic methods and comparison with literature. Compound 1 exhibited cytotoxic activity against five human cancer cell lines with IC50 values ranging from 13.40 to 28.96 μM, with cisplatin as the positive control.

The structures of these compounds were determined using spectroscopic analysis and comparison of experimental and computed ECD curves. Compounds 1-4 exhibited inhibition of nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW264.7 cells, with IC50 values ranging from 33.94 to 57.53 μM.

Summary: The polyphenolic content of Ligaria cuneifolia varies during different developmental stages, and there are differences between in vitro cultures and organs of wild plants. Various cultivation conditions have significant effects on the growth and polyphenolic accumulation of calli. Antioxidant activity was detected in all samples, but in vitro cultures exhibited lower activity levels.

Summary: This study identified and analyzed 101 R2R3-MYB genes in Aquilaria sinensis, and found that one subgroup 4 R2R3-MYB gene, AsMYB054, was negatively correlated with the accumulation of agarwood-specific compound PEC. Further experiments showed that AsMYB054 acted as a transcriptional repressor in the nucleus, inhibiting the expression of PEC biosynthesis-related genes AsPKS02 and AsPKS09. These findings provide insights into the regulatory role of AsMYB054 in PEC biosynthesis.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism of agarwood formation induced by wounding in Aquilaria sinensis, specifically focusing on the newly selected easier induced agarwood A. sinensis germplasm (EIAA). The results demonstrate a tradeoff between growth and defense during agarwood formation, with EIAA exhibiting stronger defense ability at physiological and biochemical levels compared to ordinary A. sinensis. This leads to higher agarwood yield and essential oil content in EIAA.

Summary: This study determined for the first time the content and distribution of cyanogenic glycosides in perilla, finding that prunasin was the most abundant cyanogenic glycoside. The content of prunasin in perilla leaves varied among strains regardless of leaf color or the main compound in the essential oils. Prunasin content was higher in fresh and young leaves compared to dried and mature leaves. The growth stage and season of perilla also influenced the prunasin content.

Summary: Techniques for identifying crop varieties used as spices and food additives are crucial for ensuring food safety, preventing false labeling, protecting breeder's rights, and preventing theft or unauthorized export. In Japan's variety registration system, there are 16 varieties of Perilla frutescens, including Shimoadachi, which has a lemon-like smell due to its main essential oil component, citral. No other P. frutescens cultivars with similar characteristics have been found. Another registered variety, per-001, is rich in perillaldehyde and rosmarinic acid, and has potential applications in herbal medicines and functional foods. Therefore, the development of variety identification techniques is essential for stable production and protection.

Summary: In this study, 43 Mentha Herb products collected from the Japanese market and two plant samples of the original species of Japanese Mentha Herb harvested in China were analyzed. It was found that almost all samples were identified as M. canadensis L., and the main component of their ether extracts was menthol, although there were variations in their composition. However, there were some samples thought to be derived from other Mentha species, even though their main component was menthol. It is important to ensure the original plant species and the composition of the essential oil and amount of menthol for quality control of Mentha Herb.

Summary: This study analyzed the genetic diversity of Panax ginseng cultivated in Japan and compared the results with those from Korea and China. The findings revealed that the genetic diversity of P. ginseng in Japan differs significantly from that in Korea and China, likely due to Japan's cultivation history and the agamospermy reproduction system. The genetic analysis also revealed that P. ginseng cultivated in Japan can be classified into two clusters, which are related to ginsenosides Re and Ro contents in the main root, rather than the cultivation region of the samples.
