Endocytosis is an essential process for the normal growth and development of eukaryotic cells. This mini-review presents an overview of endocytosis regulation in challenging environmental conditions such as nutrient availability, hormonal treatment or abiotic/biotic stress in plant cells. Recent data establishing a relationship between endocytosis and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production are also discussed.

Identification of Putative Interactors of Arabidopsis Sugar Transporters

Daniel Wipf, Carole Pfister, Arnaud Mounier, Nathalie Leborgne-Castel, Wolf B. Frommer, Pierre-Emmanuel Courty

Summary: Hexoses and disaccharides are essential carbon sources for physiological processes, with sugar transport mediated by transport proteins across different organs and playing key roles in interactions with microbes. Studying sugar transporter interactions can uncover important players in biologically and physiologically relevant processes.

The oligomeric states of elicitins affect the hypersensitive response and resistance in tobacco

Summary: This study investigated the impact of elicitin oligomeric structures on tobacco plant defense responses, revealing that covalently cross-linking beta-CRYDIM impaired its capacity to induce the hypersensitive response and resistance. Furthermore, the C-terminal domain of elicitins from other ELI clades was found to play a role in stabilizing their oligomeric structures.

Latest biotechnology tools and targets for improving abiotic stress tolerance in protein legumes

Summary: This article reviews recent advances in biotechnological approaches for improving the tolerance of protein legumes to abiotic stresses such as drought, high salinity, heat and cold, and heavy metal stress. In addition to improvements obtained mainly through transgenesis, the application of tools such as CRISPR/Cas and RNA interference in legumes in the context of abiotic stress tolerance is also discussed, along with a suggested path for gene control in legume plants, organs, or cells by these tools. Promising molecular targets, perspectives, and future directions for enhancing abiotic stress tolerance are also discussed.

Summary: The study showed that expressing the hub domain in transgenic tobacco cells results in elongated cell morphology, impacting endocytosis. Flow cytometry analysis revealed reduced A-T levels and variable genome size in callus, with Xanthi cells being more affected than BY-2 cells.

Structural conservation of WEE1 and its role in cell cycle regulation in plants

Summary: The study assessed the structural conservation of WEE1 protein in the plant kingdom, particularly focusing on legume crops, and found general conservation of WEE1 proteins. However, structural differences, such as substitutions at the entrance of the catalytic pocket, may challenge the specificity of plant WEE1 compared to human WEE1, suggesting potential differences in cell regulation processes between plants and humans.

Summary: This study investigated the physiological and biochemical responses of amaranth to different levels of salinity. The results showed that high salt concentration significantly reduced biomass, CO2 assimilation rate, and water use efficiency, while increasing antioxidant enzyme activity and proline accumulation.

Phylogeny and lipid profiles of snow-algae isolated from Norwegian red-snow microbiomes

Summary: Snow algae blooms in melting snowfields are poorly understood in terms of their biology, biogeography, and species diversity. This study investigated eight isolates from red snow in northern Norway using morphology and genetic markers. Six isolates were assigned to known species, while two isolates were potentially new species. Further experiments revealed differences in growth rate and fatty acid profiles among strains, as well as the accumulation of lipids under physiological stress. This study provides new insights into the biodiversity and biogeography of snow algae, as well as their physiological traits and ecological properties.
