Summary: Recent studies suggest that appropriate levels of Myc could have therapeutic potential for beta-cell regeneration by enhancing cell replication without inducing cell death or loss of insulin secretion. Previous studies using pathophysiological or supraphysiological levels of Myc reported enhanced beta-cell death, dedifferentiation, or formation of insulinomas, reducing enthusiasm for Myc as a therapeutic target.
