Summary: Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is an endotoxin that induces acute inflammatory response by activating macrophages to produce nitric oxide (NO) through the RAS-RAF-MEK-ERK signaling cascade. This study showed that the combination of LPS and MEK inhibitors enhanced NO production and mortality in mice with LPS-induced inflammation. The MEK inhibitor enhanced IL-12 expression and synergistically induced NO production with TNF-alpha, contributing to the increased mortality rate.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of two combined plant extracts, rich in flavonoids, on cytokine levels in rats subjected to acute and chronic stress models. The results showed that these combined extracts had a more pronounced effect in reducing cytokine levels compared to individual plant extracts.

Summary: This study identified bioactive compounds from a traditional Thai medicinal plant, Bauhinia strychnifolia Craib., that showed anti-diabetic properties. The compound quercetin was found to be the principal bioactive compound with the highest inhibitory capacity against alpha-glucosidase and DPP-IV enzymes. Additionally, the fraction containing flavonoids exhibited potent glucose uptake stimulation effects, suggesting it could be an alternative treatment for blood sugar control.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the expression of IL-11 in ischemic stroke patients and its correlation with rehabilitation training and prognosis. The results showed that patients in the rehabilitation training group had higher serum IL-11 levels and better prognosis compared to the control group. Serum IL-11 levels were found to be potential diagnostic biomarkers for poor prognosis in ischemic stroke patients. These findings suggest that IL-11, NIHSS score, and rehabilitation training are important factors for predicting the prognosis of ischemic stroke patients.

Summary: The study found that individuals with chronic opioid use disorder had elevated levels of inflammatory cytokines TNF-alpha and IL-10, while IL-6 was reduced. There was a dose-dependent upregulation of miR-155-5p and miR-187-5p at opium doses greater than 1500 g/month, along with an increase in TNF-alpha and IL-10.

Summary: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disorder in which cytokines, such as TNF-alpha and IL-17, play crucial roles. The modulation of these cytokines may impact disease progression and serve as potential biomarkers. Elevated levels of TNF-alpha and IL-17 are associated with high disease activity in SLE patients, although their inhibition as a treatment option is still under discussion. Further studies are needed to explore the therapeutic potential of targeting these cytokines in SLE.

Summary: The study investigated and compared the cardioprotective potentials of methanolic extracts from Bauhinia purpurea and Bauhinia madagascariensis in adrenaline-induced cardiotoxicity in rats. Both extracts exhibited significant protective effects against adrenaline-induced cardiotoxicity, with Bauhinia madagascariensis showing stronger anti-inflammatory activity and ACE inhibition compared to Bauhinia purpurea.

Summary: IL-17A promotes the progression of AD by inducing the secretion of TNF-α and exacerbating neuroinflammation through the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway and microglial activation. In addition, injection of IL-17A antibody significantly improves cognitive function in APP/PS1 mice.

Summary: The multikinase inhibitor Luxeptinib demonstrates the ability to inhibit the release of IL-1 beta, IL-6, and TNF alpha from monocytes and macrophages, making it a potential treatment for inflammatory diseases and inflammation-associated resistance in cancer. The mechanism involves disabling caspase-1 and inhibiting multiple kinases.

Summary: This study generated a new line of IL-1 alpha KO mice using CRISPR-Cas9 technology. Compared to the previous model, this new model showed normal induction and activation of IL-1 beta in macrophages and normal response to multiple innate immune triggers. Furthermore, it was found that IL-1 alpha played a critical role in the expression of the neutrophil chemoattractant KC/CXCL1 independent of IL-1 beta.

Summary: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), also known as acne inversa, is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by painful skin lesions in various areas of the body. It affects about 1% of the population and is associated with comorbidities such as metabolic syndrome. Current therapeutic options for HS are limited, and novel treatment options are needed. Recent research suggests that immune mediators IL-1 beta, IL-17A, and G-CSF play a key role in the development of HS. Phytomedical drugs, which have potent immunoregulatory properties, have not been considered as a treatment for HS. This review explores the potential of targeting the IL-1/IL-17/G-CSF axis for an integrated phytomedical treatment of HS.

Summary: (-)-Antrocin is a potent antiproliferative compound produced by Antrodia cinnamomea. The biosynthetic gene cluster and pathway for its production were characterized. The terpene cyclase AncC was found to biosynthesize the sesquiterpene albicanol from farnesyl pyrophosphate, while AncA converted it into a different compound.
