The effect of the austenitizing temperature on the transformation of the primary structure of a tungsten-molybdenum high-speed steel of the R6M5 type modified by an addition of a titanium boride powder has been studied. The results of metallographic, X-ray diffraction, and electron-microprobe analysis of the steel have been discussed. It is shown that an increase in the austenitizing temperature from 1180 to 1260A degrees C causes significant structural transformations both in the carbide constituent and in the steel matrix.
