The beta feeding probability of Tc-102,Tc- 104,Tc- 105,Tc- 106,Tc- 107, Mo-105, and Nb-101 nuclei, which are important contributors to the decay heat in nuclear reactors, has been measured using the total absorption technique. We have coupled for the first time a total absorption spectrometer to a Penning trap in order to obtain sources of very high isobaric purity. Our results solve a significant part of a long-standing discrepancy in the gamma component of the decay heat for Pu-239 in the 4-3000 s range.

Offline commissioning of a new gas cell for the MARA Low-Energy Branch ✩

A. Zadvornaya, J. Romero, T. Eronen, W. Gins, A. Kankainen, I. D. Moore, P. Papadakis, I. Pohjalainen, M. Reponen, S. Rinta-Antila, J. Saren, D. Simonovski, J. Uusitalo

Summary: Results of offline commissioning tests for a new dedicated gas cell for the Mass Analyzing Recoil Apparatus (MARA) Low-Energy Branch are reported. The tests characterized the evacuation time, ion survival, and transport efficiency in helium buffer gas using a radioactive 223Ra α-recoil source. The suitability of the gas cell for future in-gas laser spectroscopy studies of exotic nuclei was demonstrated.

New design and simulation of the ion guide for neutron-induced fission products at the IGISOL facility

Zhihao Gao, Andreas Solders, Ali Al-Adili, Simone Cannarozzo, Mattias Lantz, Heikki Penttila, Stephan Pomp

Summary: Measurements of independent fission yields in neutron-induced fission are crucial for our understanding of the fission process and reactor physics. A simulation model was developed and benchmarked to investigate the low yield of fission products in the current measurement setup. The simulation results suggested changes to the ion guide design, resulting in a five-fold increase in yield. However, further improvements are needed to achieve sufficient intensity for reasonable measurement times.

Level structure of 221Ac and 217Fr from decay spectroscopy, and reflection asymmetry in 221Ac

Summary: 225Pa and 221Ac were produced and studied at the IGISOL facility using different spectroscopic techniques. The level scheme of 221Ac and its daughter nucleus 217Fr were reconstructed. The interpretation of 221Ac levels as parity-doublet bands suggests a static reflection asymmetric shape for this nucleus.

Applying machine learning methods for the analysis of two-dimensional mass spectra

Summary: The Phase-Imaging Ion-Cyclotron-Resonance technique was used to measure isomeric yield-ratios in fission by projecting ion motions onto a position-sensitive micro channel plate detector. A new analysis procedure was developed to determine the number of detected ions in each state, and corrections for detector efficiency and decay losses were applied. A Bayesian Gaussian Mixture model was implemented to calculate the population of states with small mass differences. The efficiency of the detector was calibrated and an efficiency function was constructed to correct the recorded distributions.

M. Hukkanen, W. Ryssens, P. Ascher, M. Bender, T. Eronen, S. Grevy, A. Kankainen, M. Stryjczyk, L. Al Ayoubi, S. Ayet, O. Beliuskina, C. Delafosse, W. Gins, M. Gerbaux, A. Husson, A. Jokinen, D. A. Nesterenko, I. Pohjalainen, M. Reponen, S. Rinta-Antila, A. De Roubin, A. P. Weaver

Summary: Precision mass measurements of neutron-rich rhodium isotopes have been conducted at the JYFLTRAP Penning trap mass spectrometer at the IGISOL facility. The study reports on the masses of ground and isomeric states in Rh-110, Rh-112, Rh-114, Rh-116, Rh-118, and Rh-120. The phase-imaging ion-cyclotron-resonance (PI-ICR) technique was used to separate and measure the isomeric states for the first time.
