We present results of 3-neutrino flavor evolution simulations for the neutronization burst from an O-Ne-Mg core-collapse supernova. We find that nonlinear neutrino self-coupling engineers a single spectral feature of stepwise conversion in the inverted neutrino mass hierarchy case and in the normal mass hierarchy case, a superposition of two such features corresponding to the vacuum neutrino mass-squared differences associated with solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillations. These neutrino spectral features offer a unique potential probe of the conditions in the supernova environment and may allow us to distinguish between O-Ne-Mg and Fe core-collapse supernovae.

Summary: The calculation of dynamic response functions is expected to benefit from rapidly developing quantum hardware resources and offers potential applications in analyzing real-time quantities of strongly correlated quantum systems. The calculation of response functions for fermionic systems at moderate momenta and energies is a promising early application due to nearly local relevant operators and the ability to resolve energies in moderately short real time.

Variational approaches to constructing the many-body nuclear ground state for quantum computing

I. Stetcu, A. Baroni, J. Carlson

Summary: We explore the preparation of specific nuclear states on gate-based quantum hardware using variational algorithms. Quantum computing can, in principle, solve large-scale nuclear systems with exponentially fewer resources than classical computing. We use the unitary coupled cluster approach to construct approximations of the ground-state vectors. However, the application on existing hardware is challenging due to the need for minimizing a large number of parameters and using a large number of entanglements.

Summary: In this study, we perform calculations and comparisons on electron-nucleus scattering on 3He and 3H using different methods and compare them to experimental data. The results show that at sufficiently large values of momentum transfer, the Green's function Monte Carlo calculation agrees well with experimental data and two other methods. The inclusion of relativistic effects is crucial in explaining data at high momentum and energy transfer.
