We study the field theoretical description of a generic theory of gravity flowing to Einstein general relativity in IR. We prove that, if ghost-free, in the weakly-coupled regime such a theory can never become weaker than general relativity. Using this fact, as a by-product, we suggest that in a ghost-free theory of gravity trans-Planckian propagating quantum degrees of freedom cannot exist. The only physical meaning of a trans-Planckian pole is the one of a classical state (black hole) which is described by the light IR quantum degrees of freedom and gives exponentially-suppressed contributions to virtual processes. In this picture Einstein gravity is UV self-complete, although not Wilsonian, and sub-Planckian distances are unobservable in any healthy theory of gravity. We then finally show that this UV/IR correspondence puts a severe constraint on any attempt of conventional Wilsonian UV-completion of trans-Planckian gravity. Specifically, there is no well-defined energy domain in which gravity could become asymptotically weak or safe.

Analytical thresholds for black hole formation in general cosmological backgrounds

Summary: The study shows that when the fluid filling the cosmological background is a perfect fluid with w greater than or equal to 1/3, there is a critical threshold for black hole formation that is only related to the curvature of the compaction function. For smaller w values, knowledge of the full shape of the compaction function is necessary.

Retrieving black hole information from the main Lorentzian saddle point

Summary: According to Hawking's calculation, the correlation functions in a black hole decay exponentially over time. This paper demonstrates that by using the steepest descent expansion on the classical saddle point (the black hole background), the early time decay can be transformed into a late time growth, consistent with information retrieval.

Stochastic inflation at all order in slow-roll parameters: Foundations

Summary: In this paper, we develop the formalism for the stochastic approach to inflation at all orders in slow-roll parameters by including the momentum and Hamiltonian constraints into the stochastic equations. We specialize to the widely used Starobinski approximation and compare the two-point correlation functions calculated using stochastic methods with the ones calculated using the Quantum Field Theory approach. We find that there are no significant deviations between the two when the Starobinski approximation holds, and we also argue that this approximation fails to capture any loop effects of the quantum scalar-gravity system and cannot extract nonperturbative statistics.
