Measurement of (ν)over-bare-electron scattering cross section with a CsI(Tl) scintillating crystal array at the Kuo-Sheng nuclear power reactor

The (nu) over bar - e(-) elastic scattering cross section was measured with a CsI( Tl) scintillating crystal array having a total mass of 187 kg. The detector was exposed to an average reactor (nu) over bar flux of 6.4 x 10(12) cm(-2) s(-1) at the Kuo-Sheng Nuclear Power Station. The experimental design, conceptual merits, detector hardware, data analysis, and background understanding of the experiment are presented. Using 29882/7369 kg-days of Reactor ON/OFF data, the standard model (SM) electroweak interaction was probed at the squared 4-momentum transfer range of Q(2) similar to 3 x 10(-6) GeV2. The ratio of experimental to SM cross sections of xi = [1.08 +/- 0.21(stat) +/- 0.16(sys)] was measured. Constraints on the electroweak parameters (g(V); g(A)) were placed, corresponding to a weak mixing angle measurement of sin(W)(2 theta) = 0.251 +/- 0.031(stat) +/- 0.024(sys). Destructive interference in the SM (nu) over bar (e) - e process was verified. Bounds on anomalous neutrino electromagnetic properties were placed: neutrino magnetic moment at mu((nu) over bare) < 2. 2 +/- 10(-10) mu(B) and the neutrino charge radius at -2.1 X 10(-32) cm(2) < < r(nu e)(2)> < 3.3 X 10(-32) cm(2), both at 90% confidence level.

Summary: The Electron Ion Collider (EIC) will be the next generation QCD facility built at Brookhaven National Laboratory in collaboration with Thomas Jefferson National Laboratory. The EIC presents several software and computing challenges, which were addressed during the development of the detector proposal by the ECCE consortium. This document discusses the software and computing efforts undertaken to produce the proposal, as well as the computing and software model and resources required for the future of ECCE.

Summary: This study presents the production of double J/psi mesons using COMPASS data. The kinematic distributions of the collected events are analyzed, and the production cross section is estimated for different targets. The dominant contribution comes from single parton scattering, and no significant signatures of exotic tetraquarks are found.

Enhancement of coercivity and thermal stability of Pr85Al15 doped NdFeB sintered magnets followed with grain boundary diffusion

Summary: The magnetic properties and thermal stability of high-performance NdFeB magnets are improved by dual-alloy sintering with Pr85Al15 and grain boundary diffusion with Tb55Pr20Cu25. The addition of Pr and Al strengthens the magnetic decoupling effect at the grain boundaries and a thin layer of (Nd, Pr)2Fe14B with higher magnetocrystalline anisotropy field is formed at the grain surface. The coercivity is further enhanced and thermal stability is improved after grain boundary diffusion with Tb55Pr20Cu25 alloy. Different magnetic levels of high-performance NdFeB magnets can be easily achieved by modifying the amount of PrAl for sintered magnets and/or grain boundary diffusion with TbPrCu alloys.

Summary: This paper presents simulation studies of exclusive J/y/ detection using the ECCE detector concept in the proposed EIC program. Preliminary results estimate excellent statistics due to the large cross section of J/y/ photoproduction and superior performance of the ECCE detector concept. The precise measurement of exclusive J/y/ photoproduction at EIC will deepen our understanding of nuclear gluon distributions, near threshold production mechanism, and nucleon mass structure.

Searching for Afterglow: Light Dark Matter Boosted by Supernova Neutrinos

Summary: A novel analysis is conducted to study the interactions between dark matter and standard model particles using time-of-flight (TOF) information. Dark matter with mass m chi less than or similar to O(MeV) can be boosted to relativistic speed by supernova neutrinos. These boosted dark matter particles arrive on Earth with a TOF that depends only on their mass and is independent of the cross section. They can interact with detector targets in low-background experiments and manifest as afterglow events. The TOF spectra of these events can lead to significant background suppression and enable accurate determination of the dark matter mass.

Summary: The recently approved Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) will provide a unique opportunity for searches of charged lepton flavor violation (CLFV) and other new physics scenarios. The e & LRARR; & mu; CLFV transition has stringent limits, but there is a large discovery space for the e & RARR; z CLFV transition potentially to be explored by the EIC. In the ep & RARR; zX process, the z-leptons created are expected to be identified with high efficiency using the latest detector design of ECCE (EIC Comprehensive Chromodynamics Experiment) and projected integral luminosity of the EIC. A first ECCE simulation study estimates that the EIC will significantly improve the current exclusion limit on e & RARR; z CLFV.

Summary: This article describes the design and performance of the calorimeter systems used in the ECCE detector, aiming to achieve the overall performance specifications while considering the appropriate technical and schedule risks to reduce costs. The calorimeter systems consist of three electromagnetic calorimeters and two hadronic calorimeters, covering a combined range of pseudorapidity from -3.7 to 3.8 and -1.1 < ? < 3.8. Key calorimeter performances, including energy and position resolutions, reconstruction efficiency, and particle identification, will be presented.

Looking for heavy axial tensor mesons via their strong decays in light cone QCD

Summary: In this study, the strong coupling constants of unobserved heavy axial tensor mesons to heavy vector and pseudoscalar pi and K mesons, as well as a heavy axial tensor to axial vector and light pseudoscalar pi and K-mesons vertices, have been investigated using the light cone QCD sum rules method. The obtained strong coupling constants are used to estimate the decay widths, which can potentially be validated in future experiments.

Fixed-target charmonium production and pion parton distributions

Summary: In this study, we investigate how the production of charmonium quark pairs at fixed-target energies can be used to constrain the gluon distribution in pions. The results show that the differential cross sections of pion-induced charmonium production with different longitudinal momentum fractions xF impose strong constraints on the quark and gluon probability distribution functions of the pion. It is found that pions with higher gluon densities provide a better description of the data. Furthermore, the production of the psi(2S) state is associated with a larger contribution from quark-antiquark pairs compared to J/psi.

Generalized quasi-Keplerian solution for eccentric, nonspinning compact binaries at 4PN order and the associated inspiral-merger-ringdown waveform

Summary: This paper investigates the fourth post-Newtonian (4PN) contributions to the parametric solution of eccentric, nonspinning compact binaries. The authors derive explicit expressions for the solution and various orbital elements, and incorporate the 4PN nonlocal-in-time tail effects using canonical perturbation theory. The resulting updated waveform is expected to be valid for modeling the merger of nonspinning, moderately eccentric black hole binaries.
