We consider the direct and indirect detection signatures of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) chi(0) in kinematic regimes with a heavier, but nearly degenerate, charged state chi(+/-). For small splittings of O(10) MeV, the scattering of WIMPs off nuclei may be dominated by inelastic recombination processes mediated by the formation of (chi(-) N) bound states, leading to a distinct signature for direct detection. These cross sections are bound primarily by limits on the abundance of heavy isotopes, and may be considerably larger than the elastic scattering cross section in more conventional models. If the mass splitting is too large for recombination to occur, there may still be a significant resonant enhancement of loop-induced electromagnetic form factors of the WIMP, which can enhance the elastic scattering cross section. We also discuss how this regime affects the annihilation cross section and indirect detection signatures, and note the possibility of a significant mono-energetic gamma signal, mediated by resonant processes near the (chi(+) chi(-)) bound-state threshold.

Hydrodynamic effective field theory and the analyticity of hydrostatic correlators

Akash Jain, Pavel Kovtun, Adam Ritz, Ashish Shukla

Summary: The study focuses on one-loop corrections to the retarded and symmetric hydrostatic correlation functions in relativistic hydrodynamics, specifically looking at charge diffusion. By considering diffusive charge density fluctuations and augmenting it with momentum fluctuations, the study shows that loop corrections maintain the analyticity of retarded correlation functions in spatial momentum, as a result of the KMS constraint and thermal screening effects. The interacting field theory for diffusive hydrodynamics is developed to analyze this phenomenon, viewing it as a limit of relativistic hydrodynamics without temperature and longitudinal velocity fluctuations.

Summary: High energy collisions at the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (LHC) produce a large number of particles beyond the acceptance of existing experiments. The proposed Forward Physics Facility (FPF) will host experiments to probe standard model processes and search for physics beyond the standard model (BSM). FPF experiments will explore BSM physics through searches for new particle scattering or decay signatures and deviations from SM expectations in a low-background environment.

Solar reflection of dark matter

Haipeng An, Haoming Nie, Maxim Pospelov, Josef Pradler, Adam Ritz

Summary: By numerically simulating the interaction of dark matter with solar interior electrons, the energy spectrum of the reflected flux can be determined, and the expected rates for direct detection experiments can be calculated. Large Xenon-based experiments offer the strongest direct limits for dark matter masses below a few MeV, with a sensitivity to the effective dark matter charge of approximately 10-9e.
