Summary: This study shows that older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus who use metformin as a pre-influenza vaccination have lower risks of hospitalization for influenza, pneumonia, cardiovascular disease, mechanical ventilation, and mortality compared to nonusers of metformin.

Summary: The global influenza vaccination rates are generally low, especially in the general population. High-income countries/regions have significantly higher vaccination rates compared to middle-income countries/regions. Factors such as free vaccination policies, perception of vaccine efficacy, healthcare workers' recommendations, and vaccination history positively influence vaccine uptake.

Summary: Respiratory failure is a common complication in hospitalized influenza patients, particularly in those with pneumonia and since the 2009 pandemic. However, there is significant heterogeneity in the definition and reporting of respiratory failure, making it difficult to characterize and compare across cohorts and other respiratory viruses.

Summary: This study analyzed the trends and impact of influenza vaccination rates in South Korea, focusing on target groups such as children, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic diseases. The results showed discrepant vaccination rates among these groups, which correlated with their financial coverage under the National Immunization Program. The recent expansion of financial aids to children and pregnant women led to significant increases in their vaccination rates. The study suggests that free vaccination policy is effective in enhancing coverage and calls for its expansion to other under-vaccinated target groups, especially individuals with chronic diseases.

Summary: Vaccination against influenza can reduce the risk of all-cause pneumonia admission and all-cause mortality in solid organ transplant recipients. However, there is no significant effect on influenza-related admission and ICU admission. Despite the benefits, the uptake of influenza vaccination among these recipients is low, highlighting the need for prioritizing annual vaccination.

Summary: This study found that vaccination against influenza can reduce the risk of contracting COVID-19, especially in patients with cardiovascular problems, diabetes, chronic lung, and chronic kidney disease, but for institutionalized patients, there was a significant increase in the risk of contagion instead of a reduction. Socioeconomic conditions, as measured by the MEDEA deprivation index, were found to explain increases in the risk of contracting COVID-19, highlighting the importance of awareness campaigns to boost vaccination programs.

Summary: A retrospective analysis showed a positive and significant association between influenza vaccination during pregnancy and infant influenza vaccination. Infants born to vaccinated mothers had higher vaccination coverage compared to infants born to non-vaccinated mothers. Increasing influenza vaccination coverage among pregnant individuals may also increase infant vaccination coverage.

Summary: The study found that immunosuppression is associated with increased disease severity and 30-day mortality risk in IC patients with Flu-p. Factors such as baseline lymphocyte counts, coinfection, early treatment, and systemic corticosteroid use were independently related to mortality in IC patients with Flu-p.
