Summary: This study presents the synthesis, structural characterization, and photophysical properties of cyclometalated Pt-II and Ir-III complexes with different functionalized phosphine ligands. The Pt complexes exhibit higher photoluminescence quantum yields in PS films compared to the Ir complexes and the precursor. The higher quantum yield of Pt complexes can be explained by the calculated energy gap between the metal-centered triplet and the ligand-centered triplet/metal-to-ligand charge transfer states.

Summary: The study investigates the structural, electronic, and optical properties of N-unsubstituted and N-methylated 2-(2-thienyl)perimidines using DFT/TDDFT calculations. The results show that these ligands have the potential to be used in the construction of light-harvesting iridium(III) complexes. The resulting iridium(III) dye exhibited panchromatic absorption up to 1000 nm and performed well in dye-sensitized solar cells.

Summary: In this study, a theoretical investigation of the structural, optical, and phosphorescence properties of four cyclometalated Pt(II) complexes containing substituted 2-(2-thienyl)pyridine ligands was conducted using DFT and TD-DFT methods. The results were compared with available experimental data, and the main normal modes involved in phosphorescence bands were analyzed and assigned.

Summary: This study focuses on the substitution of the chlorido ligand in a cyclometalated complex with thioacetate, resulting in a thiolato complex. The photophysical properties of this complex were investigated in different states, revealing changes in phosphorescence spectra, lifetime decays, and quantum yield with increasing complex concentration. The tuning of emission spectra was found to depend on the competition between monomeric and aggregate emissive states.

Summary: In this article, a series of cyclometalated platinum(ii) complexes with various tridentate N^C^N-cyclometalated ligands derived from 1,3-bis(pyrimidin-2-yl)benzene were reported. The optical properties of these complexes in solution and solid state were found to be dependent on the substituents. In addition, the DFT calculations correlated well with the experimental data.

Summary: Substituting the chloride ligand of the cyclometalated complexes [Pt(5-R-dpyb)Cl] (R = methyl, 2-thienyl; dpyb = 1,3-di(2-pyridyl)benzene) with 1-phenyl-1H-tetrazole-5-thiolate leads to the thiolato complexes [Pt(5-R-dpyb)(1-phenyl-1H-tetrazole-5-thiolate)], which have been fully characterized. The photophysical properties of these complexes were determined in degassed dichloromethane solution at room temperature. It was found that the emission color can be controlled by the substituents on the benzene ring, with the introduction of a donor group such as 2-thienyl resulting in a significant red-shift.

Summary: We have investigated a range of dicationic heteroleptic complexes with two cyclometalating 2-phenylbenzothiazole (pbt) groups and a phenanthroline-based ligand. The photophysical and electrochemical properties of these complexes were studied, and different emissive states were observed depending on the medium and excitation wavelength. Theoretical calculations supported these findings and provided insights into the luminescence of these PtIV complexes.

Summary: Four series of Pt(ii) tweezer compounds were designed and synthesized to investigate their ability to form luminescent supramolecular assemblies. The compounds have a general chemical structure of (diphos)Pt(N<^>N<^>N), where diphos is a diphosphane that imparts a tweezer structure to the complexes. The four series differ in the substituents of the N<^>N<^>N ligands, which affect their electronic and bulk properties. Spectroscopic analysis and DFT calculations revealed the presence of intra- and intermolecular Pt•••Pt, Pt•••π, and π•••π interactions, leading to aggregates with varying stabilities. The aggregation process was analyzed in both solution and solid state, showing that emission properties are influenced by aggregation, as demonstrated by enhanced phosphorescence emission in the absence of chloride substituents.

Summary: A new family of luminescent heteroleptic pentafluorophenyl-bis(2-phenylbenzothiazolyl) Pt-IV derivatives were designed and their photophysical properties were systematically studied. The cationic complexes 1-3 exhibited remarkable efficacy against lung carcinoma and cervix carcinoma cell lines. The neutral complex 6 showed low cytotoxicity and high photocytotoxicity when irradiated with blue light.

Summary: This study presents the synthesis and characterization of two series of mononuclear and symmetrical binuclear cycloplatinated(II) complexes. The structures of these complexes were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. One of the complexes showed a high quantum yield of up to 21% in the solid state. Density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT calculations were used to interpret the absorption and emission properties of these complexes.

Summary: New cyclometalated PtII complexes with different picolinate ligands were synthesized, and the solid-state packing and photophysical properties were modulated through donor-acceptor H-bonding interactions and stacking interactions. Theoretical calculations and experimental studies revealed the influence of metal-metal contacts and chelate stacking on the charge transfer character.

Summary: Understanding how host metal(loid)s regulate immune response is crucial for understanding the mechanism of infectious diseases. This study established a metal-coding system to analyze the links between metallome and COVID-19 pathogenesis and immunity. COVID-19 patients showed distinct metallome features compared to non-infected individuals, which could serve as biomarkers for disease diagnosis. Selenium was found to be strongly associated with interleukin-10 (IL-10), and selenium supplementation enhanced IL-10 expression in B cells while reducing proinflammatory cytokines in B and CD4+ T cells. Additionally, selenium supplementation alleviated lung damage in SARS-CoV-2-infected mice.
