Summary: This study found a close relationship between baseline BMI and improvement in negative symptoms in first-episode and medication-naive SZ patients after treatment with risperidone. Linear regression analysis showed that baseline BMI was an independent predictor of response to risperidone in the early stage of SZ.

Summary: This study proposes the use of biodegradable microPlates for sustained release of risperidone to mitigate cognitive impairment in schizophrenia. The microPlates demonstrated slow release rates, and experiments on mice showed improved cognitive function with the use of risperidone microPlates compared to free risperidone. This suggests that risperidone-loaded microPlates are a promising platform for improving cognitive symptoms associated with schizophrenia.

Summary: Roluperidone, a drug with antagonistic properties for various receptors, showed improvement in negative symptoms of schizophrenia and social functioning in two controlled trials. The protocol specified analysis of two open-label extension studies, lasting 24 and 40 weeks, further demonstrated sustained improvement without adverse effects or worsening of psychosis. These results support Roluperidone as a treatment for negative symptoms and social functioning deficits in patients with moderate to severe negative symptoms of schizophrenia.

Summary: America is engaged in cultural wars across issues such as abortion, immigration, gun control, climate change, religion, race, and gender. Two preregistered studies suggest that people do not know how much attitudes have changed on these contentious issues, or even which side is winning. These misperceptions can lead to the justification of policies that people may not actually prefer.

Summary: In Australia, the 'Play it Food Safe' campaign was tested for its effectiveness in improving safe food-handling behavior among consumers. Although some psychological constructs improved over time and knowledge was higher among participants who saw the campaign, behavior remained unchanged. These findings suggest that while the campaign may be effective for increasing knowledge and improving some psychological constructs long-term, further development is needed to impact behavior.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the effects of body weight at birth and individual neonatal care on the mortality, growth, and meat characteristics of piglets. The results showed that early neonatal care is effective in reducing mortality, especially in low-birth-weight piglets, and may have long-term effects on metabolism.

Summary: This study found that the efficacy of antipsychotics at week 2 can predict subsequent responses at week 6, and this predictive capacity varies among different antipsychotics and psychotic symptoms. The reduction rate of PANSS total score and improvement of psychotic symptoms at week 2 can be used to clinically predict treatment responses to antipsychotics at week 6.

Summary: China has recently introduced the Internet Information Service Algorithmic Recommendation Management Provisions, which require technology companies to remove discriminatory or biased user tags and prevent the generation or promotion of fake news through algorithms. The Provisions also allow Internet users to choose their level of algorithmic recommendations. However, the Provisions lack information on how individual users can report abuse to authorities, instead of relying on technology companies. This article discusses the need for a public-facing platform that can facilitate effective communication with authorities to address algorithmic security concerns.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and predictors of depression in patients after pacemaker implantation during the COVID-19 pandemic. It also identified specific depressive symptoms associated with quality of life using network analysis. The results showed that patients with depression were more likely to report a poor health status, severe anxiety symptoms, and fatigue. The study identified central symptoms of depression and depressive symptoms linked to quality of life, which can be targeted for interventions and preventive measures for depression in patients who have undergone pacemaker implants.

Summary: This study investigated the microstructure of white matter (WM) in individuals with attenuated positive symptom syndrome (APSS) using diffusion tensor and T1-weighted imaging. Compared with healthy controls, individuals with APSS showed differences in diffusion index values in certain segments of WM tracts involved in frontal and limbic-cortical connections. Abnormal WM tracts were also associated with impaired general and neurocognitive function.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of accelerated intermittent theta burst stimulation (aiTBS) for patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) or bipolar depression (BD). A meta-analysis of five double-blind randomized controlled trials (RCTs) found that active aiTBS showed greater response in treating major depressive episodes in MDD or BD patients compared to sham stimulation. This provides preliminary evidence for the effectiveness of active aiTBS in treating major depressive episodes.

Summary: This study examined the cognitive processing of prospective memory (PM) in patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSDs) using an eye-tracking paradigm. It also explored the effects of prosocial intention on PM in SSDs. In phase 1, the PM accuracy and eye-tracking indices of group1 (26 patients) and healthy controls (HCs) were compared. Phase 2 introduced prosocial intention and recruited 21 additional patients (group2) to compare their performance with group1. The results showed that group1 had lower PM accuracy and less cue monitoring compared to HCs, while group2 (with prosocial intention) performed better in both PM accuracy and cue monitoring than group1. The impairment in cue monitoring contributes to PM deficits in SSDs, and the effect of prosocial intention on PM disappears after controlling for cue monitoring, indicating its critical role.
