Summary: Pancreatic cancer is a highly aggressive malignancy with a poor prognosis. Aberrant expression of microRNAs (miRNAs) is often associated with the initiation, progression, and metastasis of pancreatic cancer. This review discusses the potential of integrating miRNAs into the treatment of pancreatic cancer and offers insights for the development of precision medicine.

Summary: This review discusses the delivery systems for miRNA-based cancer therapy. MiRNA plays essential roles in regulating physiological processes and cancer pathologies. However, the use of nucleic acid-based delivery faces many obstacles. The review focuses on nonviral nanotechnology-based platforms, including lipid, polymer, inorganic, and extracellular vesicle-based strategies, and also highlights peptide carriers as a promising delivery platform.

Summary: Several cancer-related pathways were found to be affected by the deregulated miRNAs identified in blood samples from patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). The study revealed 179 CRC-associated miRNAs of differential abundance, with the majority specifically predicting metastatic CRC. Further confirmation is needed for the identified biomarker and therapeutic candidates in clinical relevance.

Summary: Ferroptosis is a cell death pathway triggered by an imbalance between oxidant and antioxidant production, which plays an emerging role in tumorigenesis. It is regulated at three levels: iron metabolism, the antioxidant response, and lipid metabolism. Epigenetic dysregulation, involving microRNA mutations, is a hallmark of human cancer, and microRNAs have been found to modulate cancer growth and development through the ferroptosis pathway. This review summarizes the mechanism of ferroptosis initiation, the potential role of microRNAs in controlling this process, and the impact of treatments on ferroptosis in cancer.
