Summary: Preterm infants are more susceptible to invasive bacterial infections, with S. epidermidis being a major cause. Although the immature immune system of preterm infants plays a role, it does not explain why only a subset of infants develop infections with low-virulence organisms. Research has identified multiple factors related to the virulence of S. epidermidis and its commensal characteristics.

Summary: Research found that teachers in college STEM classrooms guide students in active learning activities, but often use authoritative discourse approaches, with chemistry instructors using this approach more. Teaching faculty demonstrate relatively high levels of dialogic, interactive discourse, and neither years of teaching experience nor class size have an impact on teaching practices or discourse approaches.

Summary: The study found that informants are at the bottom of the inmate hierarchy, and snitching is a rare and uncommon behavior. About three-fourths of respondents believed that snitching is acceptable in certain situations, and characteristics such as age, education level, gang status were associated with snitching identity, behavior, or contingencies.

Summary: This article explores the similarities and differences between compelled speech claims and complicity claims. It argues that the concepts of attribution and disassociation, commonly applied in compelled speech claims, should also be applied in complicity claims. The article attempts to demonstrate how these concepts can be analyzed in complicity cases. If these concepts do not fit well in the complicity context, the article argues they should be rejected in the compelled speech context as well.

Summary: Fisheries are complex social-ecological systems that require a multifaceted approach to achieve sustainability. The inclusion of diverse knowledge types from different stakeholders is important in decision-making for fisheries management. However, it is currently unclear how this information is accessed, prioritized, and utilized, as well as the consequences of its use. This study explores the information and priorities guiding fisheries management decisions in Atlantic Canada, with a focus on the contributions of rightsholders and stakeholders. The findings can inform efforts to adopt an inclusive and participatory approach to evidence-based decision making for sustainable fisheries.

Summary: Data-driven synthesis is crucial for realistic animation. This study evaluates the effectiveness of mirroring augmentation by analyzing the symmetry of speaker's arm motion during conversation. The findings suggest that mirroring augmentation is valid in certain cases, but the gesturing style and handedness of the original speaker should be carefully considered.

Summary: This study examines the classification of music and speech sounds performed by the dundun talking drum, revealing the importance of acoustic features and listener familiarity in distinguishing speech and music. The experiment showed that listeners were able to identify the intended category of the samples, with acoustic features such as intensity, pitch, timbre, and timing playing a significant role.

Summary: The study introduces a novel audio-visual dataset ASW for active speaker detection in the wild, featuring videos and speech segments with dense speech activity labels. Evaluation using self-supervised and supervised systems provides baseline performances for ASW, while cross-domain evaluation and case studies showcase the negative impact of dubbed videos excluded from ASW.

Summary: The article discusses the definition of illusions and the validity of the idea of objective reality. It argues against the claim that external reality cannot be represented truly by our sensory systems and emphasizes the importance of recognizing different levels of dynamic systems of information. The notion of objective reality is considered valid within a non-reductive metaphysics.
