Summary: This retrospective clinical study evaluated the clinical and radiographic outcomes of full-arch implant prosthetic rehabilitations supported by six axial implants or four implants placed according to the All-on-Four protocol. The results showed that immediate implant-retained prosthetic rehabilitations supported by either six axial implants or four fixtures could be a valid therapeutic alternative for edentulous patients, providing functional and aesthetic restoration and improving patient acceptance.

Summary: After controlling for various confounders, the study found a significant association between severe periodontal disease (SPD) and the incidence of AMI and stroke in the Korean population, particularly with a higher impact on females and adults aged 40 to 59 years. The data confirmed that SPD was causally associated with the new events of AMI and stroke, increasing total AMI events by 4.3%, total stroke events by 1.4%, and total major adverse cardiovascular events by 1.6% in the total Korean population.

Summary: This study aimed to assess morbidity and mortality patterns of preterm neonates with low birth weight in Amhara region referral hospitals in Ethiopia. The study revealed a high mortality rate with common morbidities including hypothermia, sepsis, respiratory distress, jaundice, and congenital anomalies. Factors associated with mortality included sepsis, respiratory distress, hypoglycaemia, Apgar score at fifth minute <7, and duration of hospital stay below the mean.

Summary: This study reported the parent-reported behavioural outcomes of preterm infants who received systemic hydrocortisone treatment. The study found high rates of behavior problems at 2 years' corrected age, but these problems were not associated with hydrocortisone treatment initiated between 7 and 14 days after birth in ventilated preterm infants.

Summary: This study analyzed the association between long-term changes in serum IgG4 levels and the clinical course of IgG4-related ophthalmic disease (IgG4-ROD) patients. The study found that patients who had a greater response to initial steroid therapy were more likely to have normalized IgG4 levels in the long term. Some patients remained in remission despite persistently elevated IgG4 levels.

Summary: This study assessed the effect of heart rate at baseline on major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) among hypertensive patients in China. Results showed that patients with heart rate <65 bpm and >= 80 bpm had an increased risk of MACEs compared to those with heart rate of 70-74 bpm. An appropriate range of heart rate control may offer guidance to hypertension treatment.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the marginal bone loss between two different categories of implants that have the same diameter and belong to the Torque Type (TT) line, one in the internal hexagon version and the other in the external hexagon configuration. The results showed that internally connected implants had less marginal bone resorption compared to externally connected implants.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed diabetic patients in an Ethiopian hospital and found a significant proportion of patients with doubling of serum creatinine within five years. Close monitoring of serum creatinine levels, regular follow-up, and effective therapeutic interventions are recommended.

Summary: Bariatric surgery has been shown to achieve sustained weight loss and improve metabolism, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. This retrospective study found that bariatric surgery resulted in significant decreases in blood pressure, glycated hemoglobin, thyroid-stimulating hormone, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and total cholesterol levels. The surgery also decreased the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and significantly reduced the Framingham risk score.

Summary: Perinatal asphyxia is a major cause of neonatal mortality worldwide, with approximately four million affected newborns and one million deaths each year. The lack of consensus on early diagnosis methods contributes to the high incidence of this condition. This study aims to develop predictive models for perinatal asphyxia using fetal heart rate indices and clinical parameters, which could improve the quality of healthcare.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the frequency and quantity of interproximal contact loss (ICL) between implant restorations and adjacent teeth after at least 10 years of follow-up. The results showed that interproximal contact loss was a common finding in 50% of the implant sites and was significantly associated with an increase in probing depth (PD).

Summary: This study investigated factors influencing intrauterine fragment retention after device rupture. The main factors positively influencing complete expulsion of the fragmented IUD were elapsed time of 45 days or more, intercurrent menstruation or spontaneous fracture. It is recommended to observe for at least 1.5 months after fracture, allowing at least one intercurrent period to elapse prior to any therapeutic intervention.

Summary: A recently discovered sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) syndrome is associated with a high-risk haplotype containing the DPP6 gene. This study found that carriers of the risk haplotype have functional changes in both the heart and autonomic nervous system, which may contribute to ventricular fibrillation (VF). These findings suggest that the primary abnormalities in SCA syndrome may reside in both the heart and the autonomic nervous system.

Summary: This paper reviews the various functions of the vagus nerve and explores their interactions in daily life, as well as the potential therapeutic applications of electrical stimulation. The study focuses on the physiological mechanisms behind heart rate variability and discusses the role of the vagus nerve in limiting inflammation. It also highlights the challenges in using whole vagus nerve stimulation due to the lack of specificity.

Summary: Sympathovagal balance is crucial in hypertension and mortality. We investigated the automated analysis of xBRS and HRV in the HELIUS study and found their relationship with clinical factors. We determined the minimum required recording duration for xBRS, SDNN, and RMSDD. Linear decreases in xBRS, SDNN, and RMSDD were observed until age 50. A significant interaction between xBRS and sex was found, with greater decrease in women. Nonlinear relationships with BP, waist-to-hip ratio, and BMI were observed. Further studies are needed for predictive value assessment.
