Summary: Gastric metastases are frequently misdiagnosed due to their rarity and non-specific symptoms, leading to delayed treatment. This study aimed to explore the clinicopathological features and differential diagnosis of gastric metastases. The analysis of 14 patients with gastric metastases not resulting from direct invasion (GMNDI) revealed specific imaging and clinicopathological characteristics. Immunohistochemistry played a crucial role in the pathological and differential diagnosis, helping to identify primary tumors such as malignant melanoma, small cell lung cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma. A comprehensive approach combining medical history, imaging examinations, and other clinical methods is essential for accurate diagnosis. Understanding GMNDI is important for improved diagnosis, treatment planning, and prognosis of gastric metastases.

Summary: Gastric cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally. This study investigated the adhesion of gastric cancer cells to enteric neurons, and found that enteric neurons are a privileged site for gastric cancer cell adhesion, especially in diffuse-type gastric cancer. The adhesion was partially mediated by N-Cadherin, and blocking N-Cadherin significantly decreased the adhesion ability. These findings suggest a potential role of enteric neurons in the dissemination of gastric cancer cells.

Summary: This study compared the gene expression differences between signet ring cell gastric cancer and well-differentiated gastric cancer, identifying NUDC as a prognostic gene. NUDC expression was associated with survival in gastric cancer patients and may serve as an independent prognostic factor.

Summary: In this study, the researchers found that compared to intestinal-type gastric cancer, diffuse-type gastric cancer (DGC) has a higher recurrence rate, metastasis rate, and poorer clinical outcomes. They identified that exocyst complex component 4 (EXOC4) is significantly upregulated in DGC with recurrence. High expression of EXOC4 is associated with tumor metastasis and poor prognosis in DGC patients. Moreover, EXOC4 promotes cell migration and invasion, as well as tumor metastasis in DGC cells. The researchers also discovered that EXOC4 regulates the phosphorylation of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) and affects the migration and tumor metastasis of DGC cells.

Summary: Cell adhesion molecule 4 (CADM4) is a tumor-suppressor candidate that is involved in intercellular interactions. This study evaluates the clinicopathological significance and prognostic value of CADM4 expression in gallbladder cancer (GBC). The results suggest that low CADM4 expression is associated with poor clinical outcomes in GBC, indicating that CADM4 may play an important role in cancer progression and can be used as a potential prognostic marker.

Summary: Gastric cancer is categorized into intestinal, diffuse, and indeterminate subtypes based on histology. Despite differences in histology, demographics, and outcomes, the intestinal and diffuse subtypes are treated similarly. This study identified a differential proteomic signature between diffuse and intestinal subtypes, including proteins such as GREM1, BAG2, OLFM4, TRIP6, and MAGE-A9.

Summary: The study aims to identify the resistance mechanisms to FAK inhibitors in diffuse gastric cancer (DGC) and evaluate the efficacy of combining FAK inhibitors with CDK4/6 inhibitors or MAPK inhibitors. The results showed that CDK6 promoted resistance to FAK inhibitors and FAK inhibitor treatment activated the MAPK pathway. Furthermore, the combination of CDK4/6 inhibitors or MAPK inhibitors enhanced the efficacy of FAK inhibitors.

Summary: This study evaluated the immunohistochemical profile of CLDN18 and its association with clinicopathological features and survival outcomes in gastric and gastroesophageal carcinomas. High membranous CLDN18 expression was found in a significant portion of samples, and correlated with certain clinical characteristics but not overall survival. Further studies are needed to determine the predictive value of CLDN18 expression in response to targeted agents.

Summary: This study elucidated the oncogenic role and biological function of copine VIII (CPNE8) in gastric cancer (GC). Increased expression of CPNE8 was positively correlated with metastasis and served as an independent prognostic risk factor for poor survival. CPNE8 promoted cell proliferation, migration, and invasiveness in GC. Additionally, CPNE8 was significantly associated with the tumor microenvironment and predicted poor efficacy of immune checkpoint therapy.

Summary: Hospitals have traditionally had higher food waste than other areas of food supply, which has negative impacts on health, economy, society, and the environment. Plate waste, uneaten food served to patients, is a major contributor to this problem. Flexible portion sizes, selective menus, additional nutritional support, and improved ordering and delivery systems have been recommended as common measures to reduce plate waste. Further research is needed to establish effective approaches for minimizing food waste in hospitals.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the risk of developing childhood asthma in preschool age due to childhood overweight and obesity and abnormal birth anthropometric measures. The results showed that childhood overweight/obesity was associated with a 76% higher risk of childhood asthma compared to normal weight children. Abnormal birth anthropometric measures, such as birth weight, length, and head circumference, were also independently associated with higher odds of childhood asthma.

Summary: Aging is a physical process that affects both humans and nature. It is characterized by changes in body composition, such as increased fat mass and decreased muscle mass, strength, and bone density. These alterations impact physical performance and increase the risk of non-communicable diseases, immobility, and disability. Our study aims to explore the interconnection between adipose tissue, muscle, and bone, in order to better understand and treat the triad muscle-bone-adipose tissue disorders that occur with aging.

Summary: The concept of sustainable diets (SDs) refers to diets that promote environmental health, ensure food and nutrition security, and support a healthy lifestyle in humans. International events have played a significant role in promoting the importance of SDs and increasing knowledge and awareness among scientists and policymakers. This study is the first to analyze the trends and turning points in SDs research using bibliometric analysis, revealing the exponential growth in literature on SDs since 2009, with a focus on climate change, food systems, and health. The Mediterranean Diet (MD) emerged as the most popular dietary pattern among local SDs, with collaborations and partnerships between countries contributing to research advancements. Overall, this study maps the expansion of knowledge on SDs over the past 36 years and highlights the impact of international events on scientific research.

Summary: This review study examines the molecular basis of the relationship between cancer and exercise, evaluating the most well-established molecular mechanisms of exercise against cancer development and progression. The study found that exercise may reduce cancer risk and/or progression through mechanisms such as the metabolic profile of hormones, reduction of systemic inflammation, increase in insulin sensitivity, augmentation of antioxidant capacity, boost to the immune system, and direct effect on tumors. There is substantial evidence that exercise can predict a stronger association with cancer and can be embedded in cancer clinical practice to improve disease progression and prognosis.

Summary: This study described the impact of radical practice and perceived changes on cancer patients' mental well-being and investigated potential outcome descriptors. The results showed that anxiety and depression were statistically associated with low mental well-being. Mild to more severe anxiety was related to mental health conditions and cancer stage. 36.2% of participants were considered to have depression, which was related to older age, previous mental health conditions, concerns about the impact of COVID-19 on cancer treatment, and perception of the pandemic affecting mental health. Most participants had a good well-being score.
