Summary: The study conducted a meta-analysis on the UK Biobank and BioBank Japan to evaluate the association of three liver enzymes with liver and other metabolic diseases. It identified multiple previously-unreported genome-wide significant associations and provided new insights into the pathophysiology of liver and metabolic diseases.

Summary: The study found non-linear associations between serum selenium levels and ALT activity and NAFLD prevalence. Positive associations were observed above a serum selenium level of 130 μg/L, while no association was seen below this value.

Summary: The study established a non-invasive model to predict significant liver inflammation in CHB patients with normal ALT levels. The model, composed of four variables, demonstrated good discrimination and calibration in both training and validation sets.

Summary: Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) is the initial test for detecting hepatocellular damage. However, lack of assay harmonization may lead to overdiagnosis and unnecessary testing. This paper emphasizes the urgent need for documenting and validating metrological traceability of serum ALT measurements to improve interpretation of ALT values. All stakeholders should cooperate to implement ALT standardization using established theoretical assumptions and experimental approaches.

Summary: Recent research suggests a positive association between serum zinc levels and ALT elevation in adults, particularly in females, obese individuals, and young adults. This association was not observed in males, non-obese individuals, and adults older than 50 years old.

Summary: This study explored the effects of the aspartate aminotransferase/alanine aminotransferase (AST/ALT) ratio and fasting insulin*prealbumin (INS*PA) product as diagnostic markers for sarcopenia in different ethnic groups in western China. The results showed that AST/ALT and INS*PA are associated with sarcopenia and have better diagnostic efficacy.

Summary: The study suggests that occupational exposure to TCE may lead to TCE-HS, and autoantibodies to CYP2E1 are primarily involved in the pathogenesis of this disorder.

Summary: This study demonstrated that serum AST and ALT are associated with new-onset type-2 diabetes mellitus in a cohort of older Chinese people, independent of traditional risk factors. The association between AST and ALT with metabolic syndrome was non-significant after adjusting for biochemical parameters.

Summary: This study investigated the normal values of amino-transferases in school children aged 2-18 years, showing a decline in AST and ALT values with increasing age. There was also a statistically significant difference in amino-transferase values between sexes.

Summary: This study found that serious acute liver injury (SALI) among statin users is rare, and baseline ALT status is not a reliable indicator for increased risk of severe liver injury among statin initiators.

Summary: The De Ritis ratio and its association with mortality outcomes in adult thoracoabdominal trauma patients were examined in this retrospective study. The study found that an increased De Ritis ratio was mainly due to elevated AST levels. In addition, a De Ritis ratio > 1.64 was identified as a useful biomarker for identifying patients at a higher risk of mortality.

Summary: The study found that in patients with HBV-related HCC, a high GGT/ALT ratio is closely associated with vascular invasion and poor prognosis, serving as a potential predictor. Higher GGT/ALT ratio is correlated with more severe tumor burden and poorer pathological characteristics.

Summary: Our study showed a strong correlation between baseline elevated ALT and incident hypertension, as well as a significant association between baseline hypertension and incident elevated ALT. The results indicate a bi-directional relationship between elevated ALT and hypertension, with elevated ALT likely preceding the development of hypertension.

Summary: This study explores the use of serum N-glycomic-derived models in diagnosing significant liver fibrosis and cirrhosis in chronic hepatitis B patients. The results show that the serum N-glycan models have high diagnostic efficiency and are superior to other fibrotic markers in differentiating liver fibrosis and cirrhosis.
