Summary: The study in western Canada showed the accumulation of gastrointestinal nematode (GIN) larvae on pasture, with similar dynamics for different GIN species on different farms. Short-term microclimatic conditions were found to impact the population of L3 larvae on the pasture.

Summary: This study investigated the dynamics of concerted evolution in plant species of the genus Erysimum. The results showed incomplete sequence homogenization, especially in polyploid samples, indicating a lack of concerted evolution. Furthermore, ITS2 exhibited higher homogenization compared to ITS1, and hybrid origin appeared to contribute to the maintenance of high haplotype diversity.

Summary: Amplicon sequencing was used to rapidly identify the fungal endophytic community among six pine species in the northeastern United States and detect patterns of specialization. While this technique allowed for large-scale surveys, it had limitations in quantifying the intimacy of host specificity relationships.

Summary: This study examined the phylogenetic congruence of host invasion types in Cephaleuros species and found that they were congruent with phylogeny. It also revealed that multiple Cephaleuros species commonly grew on the same leaf or algal spot, which could result in misidentification.

Summary: This study utilizes RNA-sequencing technology to discover the presence of abundant very small RNAs (vsRNAs) shorter than 16 nt in bacteria, including a specific vsRNA (Ile-tRF-5X) that is selectively modulated by environmental stress, released through outer membrane vesicles (OMVs), and transferred to human cells to promote the expression of a specific gene. These findings provide a new perspective on the symbiotic relationship between bacteria and human cells.

Summary: This study evaluated the genetic variability of the ITS region and pfor A gene of Trichomonas vaginalis from female patients and explored its implications in the host-parasite relationship. Results showed two main clusters in the ITS haplotypes and suggested that pfor A could be used as a marker for confirming trichomonads genus and species.

Summary: This study aimed to build an ITS gene dataset to aid the Italian Health Service in mushroom identification. By retrieving and filtering ITS sequences from GenBank and BOLD databases, as well as collecting wild specimens, a dataset of 5977 sequences was successfully established to support regional poisoning cases.

Summary: In this study, T. interdigitale isolates were obtained from Japanese patients and their ITS types were investigated. The results showed that all 29 isolates belong to ITS type II, while one clinical isolate of T. mentagrophytes was similar to ITS type II*. Additionally, a terbinafine-resistant strain of T. interdigitale also belonged to ITS type II.

Summary: This study conducted a phylogenetic analysis of Histoplasma capsulatum isolated from cases of epizootic lymphangitis (EL) in horses in central Ethiopia and evaluated their relationship with isolates from other countries and clades. By analyzing the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of rRNA genes, the study identified different clades of H. capsulatum and revealed that the Ethiopian isolates were closely related to isolates from Latin America and Eurasia, but distantly related to isolates from North America.

Summary: Variation in rDNA copy number is a common response to environmental change, complicating the analysis of rDNA amplicon sequence data. It is emphasized that interpreting amplicon sequence data in light of possible interspecific and intraspecific variation, and examining the potential plasticity in rDNA copy number is important to understand how microbial communities are structured in heterogeneous environments.

Summary: This study revealed a high level of intra-individual polymorphism of 18S-ITS1-5.8S rDNA in Cynoglossus melampetalus genome, indicating a non-concerted evolution manner. The presence of multiple types of rDNA sequences with differences in length, GC content, secondary structure stability, and minimum free energy challenges the previous assumption of homogeneity within species.

Summary: The study found significant variation in nrDNA copy numbers among different taxonomic units and within different individuals of the same species in the Hordeum genus. Foreign ribotypes represent only a small fraction of the total nrDNA copies and showed no correlation with native ribotypes.

Summary: The absence of proper identification and documentation of microalgae is a common concern in the field of applied phycology, algal physiology, and biochemistry publications. A promising solution lies in employing DNA barcoding techniques and establishing comprehensive databases of reference sequences. This study focuses on the molecular characterization and strain identification of Tetraselmis and Chlorella species using the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) barcode approach.

Summary: This study provides updated information about malaria vector species composition and insecticide resistance status in northern Myanmar. Confirmed resistance to deltamethrin was found in multiple species groups, posing a significant threat to malaria vector control. Continual monitoring of insecticide resistance is necessary for effective vector control.
