Summary: Based on a nationwide population-based cohort database, the research found that metabolically unhealthy phenotype is a significant risk factor for pancreatic cancer occurrence, independent of obesity. Conversely, obese individuals with metabolically healthy phenotype did not show an elevated risk of pancreatic cancer.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the trimester specific gestational weight gain (GWG) in Indian pregnant women and compare it with international and Indian reference data. The study found that Indian women had lower GWG compared to international standards, but higher GWG compared to Indian reference data. Maternal BMI, age, parity, hemoglobin concentrations, and height were found to be associated with GWG.

Summary: Observational evidence has shown that smoking, alcohol consumption, type 2 diabetes, and BMI are risk factors for peptic ulcer disease. This study uses Mendelian randomization to examine causal associations between these factors and the risks of gastric and duodenal ulcers. The results suggest that genetic predisposition to smoking and higher BMI are causally associated with an increased risk of these ulcers.

Summary: This study found that pre-pregnancy obesity, smoking, and risky alcohol intake increase the risk of miscarriage. The association between smoking and miscarriage is attenuated after accounting for induced abortions, and there is no dose-response relationship between smoking and miscarriage risk.

Summary: The study found that former smokers had a higher risk of herpes zoster compared to never smokers, but there was no significant association between current smokers and low-risk alcohol consumers. Body mass index and physical activity levels had minimal impact on herpes zoster risk, and binge drinking did not show a clear risk either.

Summary: A study found that overweight and obesity increased among 3- and 4-year-old children in Sweden during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was especially pronounced in children attending child health centers in lower socioeconomic areas. It highlights the need for efforts to prevent childhood obesity, particularly in disadvantaged areas, due to the potential negative impact of the pandemic on health behaviors in Swedish preschool children.

Summary: This study examined the changes in obesity prevalence among 4 to 5-year-old and 10 to 11-year-old children in the UK 19 months after the implementation of a two-tier soft drinks industry levy (SDIL) aimed at reducing sugar content in beverages. The results showed that the SDIL was associated with a decrease in obesity prevalence, particularly among girls in the most deprived areas. However, additional strategies are needed to reduce overall obesity prevalence, especially among older boys and younger children.

Summary: This study compared the impact of different COVID-19 vaccines on the durability of neutralizing antibody responses and identified individual difference factors related to antibody decline. The study found that recipients of BNT162b2 and mRNA-1273 experienced a decline in antibody levels over 6 months, while recipients of Ad26.COV2.S showed a significant increase. At the 6-month time point, antibody levels to Ad26.COV2.S were significantly higher than those to BNT162b2 and equivalent to mRNA-1273. Older age, higher baseline BMI, female gender, and non-smoking status were associated with higher antibody levels.
