Summary: This study synthesized current evidence on prognostic factors for predicting postoperative pain after knee or hip replacement. The findings suggest that various preoperative factors, including race, opioid use, preoperative function, neuropathic pain symptoms, and anxiety, are associated with postoperative chronic pain. Additionally, certain comorbidities, such as heart disease and lung disease, are not associated with postoperative chronic pain.

Summary: This study found a long-term relationship between pain coping style and healthcare use in patients with knee and/or hip osteoarthritis. Patients with an active pain coping style were found to use significantly more healthcare services over a 10-year period compared to those with a passive pain coping style.

Summary: Nonagenarians undergoing elective total joint arthroplasty have a significantly increased risk of medical complications compared to octogenarians and septuagenarians, but no significant difference in surgical complications. They are also more likely to be readmitted to the hospital postoperatively.

Summary: This study suggests that warfarin use is associated with a higher risk of knee and hip replacements compared to DOAC use. Furthermore, longer duration of warfarin use is linked to an increased risk of joint replacement.

Summary: This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Dutch version of HOOS-PS in revision hip arthroplasty patients. The results showed insufficient content validity of HOOS-PS in this patient population, indicating the need for minor changes. However, construct validity and interpretability showed positive results.

Summary: This study suggests that health coaching can reduce disability and pain in patients with chronic low back pain and reduce disability in patients with knee osteoarthritis, although the clinical significance is unclear. No conclusions could be drawn regarding the use of health coaching for hip osteoarthritis.

Summary: This systematic literature review investigates the influence of body mass index (BMI) on functional recovery after total hip replacement (THR) or total knee replacement (TKR). The findings show that obesity has a certain impact on functional recovery in the short-term, medium-term, and long-term after THR or TKR.

Summary: This study examined the effects of daily 0.5mg colchicine on incident total knee replacements (TKRs) and total hip replacements (THRs). The results showed that patients who received colchicine had a lower incidence rate of TKR and THR, suggesting that colchicine may slow disease progression in osteoarthritis and further investigation is warranted.

Summary: This study compared early hip osteoarthritis features on MRI in high-impact athletes with and without hip and/or groin pain. The findings suggest that hip and/or groin pain was associated with higher SHOMRI and labral scores, but early hip OA features were not associated with iHOT33 or HAGOS.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the relationships between reproductive factors and joint replacement arthroplasty of the knee and hip in postmenopausal Korean women. The results showed that later age at menarche, longer breastfeeding, hormone replacement therapy, and oral contraceptive use were associated with increased risk of severe OA-related surgeries, while later age at menopause and longer reproductive span were associated with decreased risk. The associations between reproductive factors and severe OA were more pronounced in underweight and younger subjects.

Summary: The study found that there was no significant difference in the frequency of structural joint damage on MRI scans at 2 and 5 years post-ACL injury, regardless of whether patients underwent surgical or nonsurgical treatment. However, the group treated with rehabilitation alone showed less inflammation at 2 and 5 years.

Summary: This study evaluated patient-reported outcome trajectories after arthroscopic meniscal surgery, finding that there were no significant differences in trajectories among patients with different cartilage lesion patterns. Though the KOOS4 scores were slightly lower in groups with cartilage lesions compared to the no lesion group, the trajectories were similar across all groups.

Summary: The objective of this study was to understand the factors associated with pain intensity responder status following nonsurgical hip osteoarthritis intervention, according to sex. Data from individuals with hip osteoarthritis participating in an 8-week education and exercise program were analyzed. The results showed that the pain response differed between men and women, indicating the need for targeted interventions based on the gender.

Summary: This study investigated the long-term effect of obesity and bariatric surgery on the incidences of osteoarthritis and arthroplasty of hip and knee. Summary: This study evaluated the natural course of ACL healing after ACL rupture within 5 years on MRI and compared the outcomes at 2 and 5 years based on healing status and treatment group. The results showed that ACL healing on MRI was associated with favorable outcomes, suggesting that the potential for spontaneous healing of the ACL may be greater than previously considered.
