Summary: This study reported the solvent-free N-formylation reaction catalyzed by Cu(OAc)(2), which used CO2 and phenylsilane to react with 2-(methylamino)pyridine and produced N-methyl-N-(2-pyridyl)formamide. The improved solubility of copper ion and enhanced nucleophilicity of acetate ion played positive roles in the activation of phenylsilane.

Summary: Here, the first example of Ni-catalyzed asymmetric hydrosilylation of 1,1-disubstituted allenes with high level of regioselectivities and enantioselectivities is reported. The development of SPSiOL-derived bisphosphite ligands (SPSiPO) was crucial for achieving this stereoselective hydrosilylation reaction. This protocol offers a versatile method for constructing enantioenriched tertiary allylsilanes in a straightforward and atom-economic manner, with broad substrate scope and excellent functional group and heterocycle tolerance.

Summary: This study investigated the dissociation of protonated forms of methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, tert-butyl, and phenylformate using tandem mass spectrometry. These formate-derived esters can undergo various chemical reactions in the atmosphere, with different ions producing distinct fragmentation products via proton transfer and oxidation reactions. Density functional theory and CBS-QB3 single-point energy calculations were utilized to explore the minimum energy reaction pathways for each ion, providing reliable energetics.

Summary: We present a new iron(II) complex with an anionic phosphanyl-iminopyridinate ligand, Cp*Fe(Cy2PN=C5H4N), which demonstrates high catalytic activity in the hydroboration of CO2 with HBpin, yielding boryl formate at a rate of approximately 1176 h(-1) at room temperature. This catalysis involves the cooperative reactivity of the metal-ligand system for H-B bond activation, resulting in the formation of a key Fe(II)-H intermediate, Cp*FeH(Cy2PN(Bpin)C5H4N), which binds the Bpin moiety at the non-coordinated amino site. The rapid and selective production of formic esters can be conveniently coupled with the N-formylation of amines, allowing for the synthesis of various formamides. Additionally, compound 1 also achieves the reduction of boryl formate to CH(3)OBpin stage in the presence of HBpin and N2 gas.

Summary: We report a rhodium-catalyzed method for the regioselective hydrosilylation of trifluoromethylalkenes with substituted silanes, giving α-trifluoromethyl-β-silanes in good to excellent yields. The hydrogenation products were obtained by treating the key intermediate with methanol as a protic solvent. Both transformations exhibited a broad functional tolerance and were expected to facilitate the synthesis of complex α-trifluoromethyl compounds.

Summary: Copper hydride (CuH) complexes have been proposed as key intermediates in synthesis and catalysis. In this study, a highly efficient strategy for CuH-catalyzed N-methylation of aromatic and aliphatic amines was developed using paraformaldehyde and polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) under mild reaction conditions. The reaction proceeded smoothly without additives to produce the corresponding N-methylated products using cyclic(alkyl)(amino)carbene (CAAC)CuH as a reaction intermediate, which resulted from a reaction between PMHS and (CAAC)CuCl.

Summary: This article explores the stepwise catalytic reduction of CO2 to formic acid, formaldehyde, and methanol using organometallic catalysts of earth-abundant first-row metals. A linear scaling relationship is developed to map the intrinsic reactivity of transition metal pincer complexes to their activity and selectivity in CO2 hydrosilylation. The hydride affinity of the catalysts is used to predict activity/selectivity trends, and cobalt complexes with bis(phosphino)triazine PNP-type pincer ligands exhibit outstanding properties in reaching the three reduction levels selectively. The results validate the potential of tandem computational-experimental approaches in catalyst design for CO2-based chemical transformations.

Summary: The novel [Cuphen(VBA)(2)H2O] complex was used to preorganize a new ion-imprinted polymer (IIP) by leaching Cu(II) from the molecular imprinted polymer (MIP). The characterization results showed that the IIP has higher surface area and is nonsoluble in water and polar solvents. The adsorption capacity of the IIP for copper(II) ions was determined, and the stability of the Cu-IIP complex was found to be higher than the Ni-IIP complex.

Summary: A new Cu(II) paddle-wheel-like complex with 4-vinylbenzoate was synthesized and characterized by various analyses. X-ray crystal diffraction revealed the geometric structure of the complex, with copper ions bound to oxygen atoms from the 4-vinylbenzoate ligand. The complex remained structurally intact when exposed to humid air, but showed a gradual replacement of coordinated acetonitrile by water molecules. EPR spectra indicated the presence of monomeric and dimeric copper species, and magnetic studies suggested oxygen absorption capacity of the Cu(II)-vba complex.
