The reaction of CO, with Et3SiH catalyzed by the nickel complex [(dippe)Ni(mu-H)](2) (1) afforded the reduction products Et3SiOCH2OSiEt3 (12%), Et3SiOCH3 (3%), and CO, which were characterized by standard spectroscopic methods. Part of the generated CO was found as the complex [(dippe)Ni(CO)](2) (2), which was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. When the same reaction was carried out in the presence of a Lewis acid, such as Et3B, the hydrosilylation of CO2 efficiently proceeded to give the silyl formate (Et3SiOC(O)H) in high yields (85-89%), at 80 degrees C for 1 h. Further reactivity of the silyl formate to yield formic acid, formamides, and alkyl formates was also investigated.

Summary: This study documents new copper(I) compounds with interesting optical/electrochemical properties, which show good activity when used as co-sensitizers in dye-sensitized solar cells. The compounds were characterized using various analytical techniques and their crystal structures were analyzed by X-ray diffraction. The results provide valuable insights into the properties of these compounds and their potential applications.

Summary: The novel [Cuphen(VBA)(2)H2O] complex was used to preorganize a new ion-imprinted polymer (IIP) by leaching Cu(II) from the molecular imprinted polymer (MIP). The characterization results showed that the IIP has higher surface area and is nonsoluble in water and polar solvents. The adsorption capacity of the IIP for copper(II) ions was determined, and the stability of the Cu-IIP complex was found to be higher than the Ni-IIP complex.

Summary: A new Cu(II) paddle-wheel-like complex with 4-vinylbenzoate was synthesized and characterized by various analyses. X-ray crystal diffraction revealed the geometric structure of the complex, with copper ions bound to oxygen atoms from the 4-vinylbenzoate ligand. The complex remained structurally intact when exposed to humid air, but showed a gradual replacement of coordinated acetonitrile by water molecules. EPR spectra indicated the presence of monomeric and dimeric copper species, and magnetic studies suggested oxygen absorption capacity of the Cu(II)-vba complex.
