Summary: The use of bis(NHC) manganese(I) complexes 3 as catalysts for the hydrogenation of esters was investigated. Various aromatic and aliphatic esters were successfully hydrogenated at mild temperatures and low catalyst loadings using complexes 3 with KHBEt3 as additive, highlighting the efficiency of the novel catalytic system. Additionally, the versatility of the developed catalytic system was demonstrated by the hydrogenation of other substrate classes like ketones, nitriles, N-heteroarenes, and alkenes.

Summary: Recent investigations have shown promising photophysical and photochemical properties of iron(III) NHC complexes, including nanosecond photoluminescence and capabilities to drive both photo-oxidation and photo-reduction reactions. These results are important for understanding the unorthodox photophysical and photochemical properties associated with this open-shell electronic configuration.

Summary: N-heterocyclic carbene gold(I) chloride and hydroxide complexes are commonly used as synthetic reagents and efficient catalysts. This study describes a straightforward and practical method for synthesizing mononuclear gold complexes with high yields, as well as the synthesis of a mononuclear gold(I) hydroxide complex and an improved synthesis method for a dinuclear gold(I) hydroxide complex. This methodology offers advantages such as the use of sustainable reaction solvents and commercially available starting materials.

Summary: Heteroleptic and homoleptic iron(III) complexes supported by a tris(N-heterocyclic carbene) borate ligand have been prepared and characterized. The strong electron-donating character of the tris (carbene) donor was revealed through various measurements and calculations. The catalytic activity of each complex in cyclohexane oxidation was evaluated and both complexes showed high catalytic activity and selectivity, with the homoleptic complex exhibiting more metal-based reactions.

Summary: Pincer complexes, with antimony as a central donor atom, have been explored in recent years. While phenylenediamine derived PXP ligands show diverse reactivity, analogues based on antimony are less commonly reported. The new PSbP complex reported in this study will expand the family of phenylenediamine derived pincer complexes.

Summary: Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are highly resistant to conventional anti-cancer treatments due to their unique characteristics, but their high dependence on mitochondria can be targeted for new therapeutic agents. This study found that a phosphorescent compound showed higher activity against CSCs compared to non-CSCs, with mitochondrial localization and superoxide production confirmed. The findings provide important insights into the potential of this compound for anti-CSC therapeutics.

Summary: The bidentate N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-pyridine nitrogen manganese complex was utilized as a catalyst for the coupling reaction between epoxides and CO2. The binary system of the manganese complex Mn-2 and tetrabutylammonium iodide (TBAI) showed high activity in the synthesis of cyclic carbonates. This binary catalytic system is versatile for various substrates, including both terminal and sterically hindered internal epoxides. A potential catalytic pathway was proposed based on analysis using UV-vis, FT-IR, and HRMS techniques.

Summary: Efficient tris-bidentate Ir(III) phosphorescent dopants were prepared using modified 1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-f]phenanthridine (tzp) ligands with aryl substituents. The prepared Ir(III) complexes exhibited highly efficient emissions in the solid state and showed varying excited-state properties based on the planarity and pi-conjugation of the ligands. One specific complex with abnormal ligand ligation displayed the most efficient emission properties in both solution and solid media. Devices fabricated with this complex as the emitter showed superior electroluminescence efficiencies and color coordinates.

Summary: The relevance of low-valent iron complexes bearing sulfur-containing ligands with the reactive iron intermediates in enzymatic dinitrogen fixation has stimulated great synthetic efforts. In this study, a mononuclear iron(I) complex with a thiolate ligand was synthesized and its catalytic performance in dinitrogen silylation reaction was investigated. The results showed that the iron complex has low-spin iron(I) nature and exhibits excellent catalytic activity, possibly due to the long lifetime of the catalytically active intermediate rendered by the thiolate ligand.

Summary: PEPPSI-type Pd complexes with NHC ligands containing N-(4-indolyl) side chains were synthesized and evaluated for their catalytic activity in three reactions. The results showed that complex 8g, with an unsymmetric N-(3-isopropyl-1,5,7-trimethyl-2-phenylindol-4-yl) NHC, exhibited the highest activity and outperformed Pd-PEPPSI-IPr. This study demonstrates the promising platform of N-(4-indolyl) side chains for the development of synthetically useful NHC ligands.

Summary: The formation mechanism of metal-N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes from imidazolium salts in the presence of weak bases was investigated through theoretical methods. Quantum chemical calculations revealed that both sodium acetate and trimethylamine facilitate complex formation. Molecular dynamics simulations showed that the ionic nature of the [AuCl2](-) and imidazolium ions, as well as the sodium acetate base, keep these species associated in the reaction mixture through ion pairing. The neutral amine, however, remains mostly separated from the other reaction partners, making it a significantly less effective base.

Summary: In this article, the synthesis, structure, luminescence, electrochemical properties, and intramolecular Au center dot center dot center dot H -C/N(sp2/sp3) hydrogen-bonding interactions of a gold(III)-N-heterocyclic carbene complex fastened with 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) are presented. The novel complex [Au(phen)(1)Cl][PF6]2, (2), was successfully synthesized using a transmetallation method starting from the proligand 1-methyl-3-((1-methyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)methyl)-1H-imidazol-3-iumhexafluorophosphate (1.HPF6). The characterization of complex 2 was done using various spectroscopic methods and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The optoelectronic properties of complex 2 were compared with its precursor [Au(phen)Cl2][PF6], and its electrochemical behavior and affinity towards different proteins were also investigated.
