Summary: Alpha-diimine ligands, such as 1,4-diazabutadiene (dad) and bis(iminoacenaphthene) (bian) derivatives, are commonly used for coordination with various metals. These ligands possess tunable steric and electronic properties, can accept one or two electrons, and play a key role in stabilizing metal-metal-bonded compounds and activating small molecules in low-valent complexes.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism of anionic polymerization of aliphatic aldehydes, revealing that the enolate formed between the initiator and monomer triggers the polymerization. The formation of enolate also leads to a chain-transfer reaction to monomer, limiting the molecular weight of the polymer. Solid-state C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy determined that the resulting anionic polymers are linear, mostly isotactic, and crystalline.

Summary: The synthesis and characterization of new binuclear Zn(ii) complexes with various ligands were presented in the study. It was found that Zn(ii) cannot mediate the cleavage of thiolates, leading to the isolation of binuclear Zn(ii)-thiolate complexes. Further investigations showed the formation of a new binuclear Zn(ii) complex featuring a bridging S-3(2-) unit through redox reactions involving thiolates and externally added elemental sulfur.

Summary: It has been found that the sparingly soluble zinc (1-hydroxyethylidene)diphosphonate can rapidly dissolve into aqueous solution when exposed to ammonia or aliphatic amines that do not contain hydrophilic groups, forming ammonium derivatives. Among these derivatives, those based on triethylamine, tert-butylamine, or di-n-butylamine have good solubility, while those based on hexamethylenediamine and ammonia have poor solubility.

Summary: The reaction of [(NdI)(3)N-2] (I) with Cp3Er in the presence of sulfur in THF yielded CpNdI2(THF), NdI(S2N2)(THF), and an unidentified erbium compound. Similarly, the reaction of [(DyI)(3)N-2] produced CpDyI2(THF) and ErI(S2N2)(THF). Furthermore, the reaction of I with ErCl3 resulted in the formation of [Nd2ErClI4-(S-2)(S2N2)(THF)(7)] and [Nd2ErCl2I3(S-2)(S2N2)(THF)(7)].

Summary: The increased interest in water-soluble aminohydroximate Ln(III)-Cu(II) metallacrowns (MC) is driven by their fascinating structural chemistry, diverse properties, and simple synthesis. We investigated the water-soluble praseodymium (III) alaninehydroximate complex Pr(H2O)4[15-MCCu(II)Alaha-5]center dot 3Cl (1) as an effective chiral lanthanide shift reagent for NMR analysis of biologically relevant (R/S)-mandelate (MA) anions in water. The enantiomers R-MA and S-MA can be easily distinguished in the presence of small amounts of MC 1 by the 1H NMR signals of multiple protons with an enantiomeric shift difference (Delta Delta delta) ranging from 0.06 ppm to 0.31 ppm. Additionally, the possibility of MA coordination to the metallacrown was investigated using ESI-MS technique and Density Functional Theory modeling.

Summary: We developed a plasmonic semiconductor photodetector based on W18O49 nanowire array (NWA) to achieve a tunable broadband photodetector. By adjusting the plasmonic absorption intensity of the W18O49 NWA through manipulating the free electron density with an external voltage, the responsivity and detectivity of the photodetector in the visible-NIR region were significantly increased. The proposed strategy of using low-cost nonmetallic plasmonic nanostructures offers a promising way to construct broadband-tunable photodetectors.

Summary: Two monomeric heteroleptic charge transfer (CT) complexes, NiII(3,6-Cat)(DADdipp) (1) and CoII(3,6-Cat)(DADdipp) (2), were synthesized using a two-step synthetic procedure. Complex 1 exhibits a low energy ligand-to-ligand charge transfer (LL'CT), resulting in a NIR NiII chromophore with high light absorption and sensitivity to solvent polarity. Complex 2, on the other hand, shows a significant change in CT properties and a decrease in absorptivity due to the bulky ligands. The electrochemical behavior of the complexes is determined by the differences in coordination geometry and the involvement of the metal center in redox transitions.

Summary: The perfluorinated alkoxy silanes were synthesized and fully characterized. However, attempts to deprotonate them to form the conjugate silanide ions failed due to the exceptionally short and strong Si-H bonds. In the solid state, the Si-H units do not participate in any intermolecular interactions, and the crystal packing is dominated by exceptionally short and strong F...F interactions. The cohesive energies are solely attributed to London dispersion interactions, similar to noble gas crystal structures.

Summary: The reactivity of phenanthro-[9,10]-(1,3,2)-diazadiphospholenes towards iron triad carbonyls has been investigated. Diphospholenes react with cobalt octacarbonyl and diiron nonacarbonyl as phosphinyl radicals. The reaction with nickel carbonyl involves the initial coordination of diphospholenes to the metal ion as Lewis bases. The obtained compounds were characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy, and their structure was determined using X-ray structural analysis. DFT computational studies examined the bonding nature in the new compounds.
