Summary: A palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction synthesized a stable neutral [XII2] ligand from 4,5-dibromo-2,7-di-tert-butyl-9,9-dimethylxanthene. The reaction of XII2 with YCl3(THF)(3.5) provided [(XII2)YCl3] (1), while the reaction with [Y(CH2SiMe3)(3)(THF)(2)] produced a complex mixture of products. Protonation of XII2 using [H(OEt2)(2)][B(C6F5)(4)] and subsequent reaction with [M(CH2SiMe3)(3)(THF)(2)] directly afforded cationic scandium and yttrium dialkyl complexes.

Summary: We have demonstrated the dimerization and oligomerization reactions of ethylene using bis(phosphino)boryl supported Ni(II) complexes as catalyst precursors. The addition of alkylaluminum(III) compounds or other Lewis acid additives enhances the activity and selectivity of these Ni(II) complexes, leading to the production of butenes and higher olefins. Our studies suggest that this catalysis involves a cooperative activation of ethylene by the Ni-B unit, resulting in the formation of a key borametallacycle intermediate.

Summary: Previously reported carbazole-bis(tetrazole) (CzT(R)) ligands (where R = iPr and CH2-2,4,6-C6H2Me3) were used to synthesize air-stable, six-coordinate, octahedral bis-ligand Fe(II) complexes (CzT(R))(2)Fe. The synthesis and characterization of these complexes using H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), X-ray crystallography, Mossbauer spectroscopy, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations are reported. The magnetic properties of the isopropyl derivative exhibit thermal induced spin crossover (SCO) while the slightly bulkier CH2-2,4,6-C6H2Me3 (CH(2)Mes) Fe complex shows different magnetic behavior with no SCO.

Summary: The influence of the pincer platform composition and substitution on the reactivity and physical properties of pincer complexes is easily explored experimentally, with subtle effects on the molecular structures and thermodynamic stability. The bond lengths and strengths of M-C-ipso, M-P, and M-X were discussed, along with thermochemical balances for different types of pincer complexes.

Summary: Six silyl cobalt(III) hydrides were synthesized with different substituents at the P and Si atoms, among which complex 3 exhibited excellent anti-Markovnikov regioselectivity as the best catalyst for alkene hydrosilylation. Addition of pyridine N-oxide reversed the selectivity of the reaction from anti-Markovnikov to Markovnikov addition, while maintaining high yield and excellent selectivity at a lower temperature. The proposed reaction mechanisms were based on experimental information, and the molecular structures of the complexes were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

Summary: The reactions of H2AlCl with specific ligands produce aluminum hydrides supported by radical-anionic 1,2-bis(arylimino)acenaphthene ligands. These aluminum hydrides react with CO2 to form corresponding alumoxanes. The compounds have been characterized by ESR and IR spectroscopy, and their molecular structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis.

Summary: In this study, perfluororhodacyclopentane was successfully prepared using a PBP pincer ligand. The perfluororhodacyclopentane showed high reactivity towards hydrogenolysis, iodinolysis, and protonolysis due to the strong trans-effect of the boryl ligand. This study also demonstrated the potential application of the PBP pincer skeleton in the preparation of fluorinated compounds from TFE.

Summary: The metalation of the DIPPCCC ligand platform with Pd was achieved under mild conditions, forming (DIPPCCC)PdX complexes (X = Cl or Br). Crystallographic analysis confirmed the PdIV oxidation state and the stability of these complexes to air and moisture. The clean reduction of PdIV to PdII and the formation of halogenated alkane demonstrate the accessibility of high-valent palladium DIPPCCC complexes.

Summary: The study synthesized ruthenium complexes with a cavity-containing ligand and characterized their structures. Different types of pincer-type ligands were used during the synthesis, forming different complexes through thermal ligand exchange of CO with phosphorus ligands. The experimental results showed that these complexes exhibited catalytic activity and performed well in the hydrosilylation reaction.

Summary: A series of homoleptic and heteroleptic 3d transition metal complexes were synthesized with analytically pure form and high yield using 1,3-bis(2-pyridylimino)isoindolate (BPIH) ligand. The homoleptic complexes exhibited a distorted octahedral structure with two meridionally coordinating BPI ligands, while the heteroleptic complexes showed a highly distorted square pyramidal geometry with a planar tridentate BPI ligand coordinating to the metal center along with chloro and aqua ligands. These complexes have unique structural features and potential catalytic applications.
