Summary: Two new furan-containing helicene derivatives 6a and 12a were successfully synthesized and characterized. The cyclized molecules 6a and 12a showed red-shifted absorption and emission compared to their precursors 5 and 11. Compound 6a could form radical cations in the presence of one-electron oxidant AgSbF6, while compound 12a was not oxidizable. Moreover, compounds 6a, 12a, and their precursors 5, 11 exhibited promising photoswitching responses.

Summary: Novel four-arm star-shaped polymers with different molecular weights were successfully synthesized using a new polymerization technique, displaying excellent nonlinear optical (NLO) properties. A novel polymer synthesized through click reaction showed better NLO performance. Complexes prepared from the novel polymer exhibited significantly enhanced NLO properties, indicating a weaker aggregation effect in the matrix.

Summary: UV-curable coatings mainly consist of vinyl resin, active thinner, and photoinitiator. The viscosity and film hardness of vinyl star polyester were found to increase with the hydroxyl function of small molecular polyols. The inclusion of polyether polyol N210 in the reaction system reduced the resin viscosity and improved the film hardness and impact toughness.

Summary: Tuning the diradical character and properties of organic diradicaloids can be achieved through precise borylation reactions. The synthesized B-containing polycyclic hydrocarbon exhibits distinctive electronic structures and properties compared to its isomeric molecule. Moreover, it shows smaller diradical character and enhanced Lewis acidity, which can further enhance its diradical performance through Lewis coordination.

Summary: Linear uniform oligomers are modified with octaethylene glycol monomethyl ether and coupled via azide-alkyne cycloaddition to form uniform star-shaped block macromolecules with a mass ranging from 10 to 14 kDa. Characterized by NMR, ESI-MS, and SEC, these macromolecules are then tested for their ability to encapsulate dye molecules in qualitative solid-liquid phase transfer experiments.

Summary: An electrochemical activation method for galactose oxidase (GOase) was developed to replace the expensive horseradish peroxidase activator in large-scale pharmaceutical processes. The study showed that the electron-transfer rates between GOase and various mediators depend on both the redox potential of the mediator and the pH. The electrochemical GOase activation method was successfully applied to the aerobic oxidation of benzyl alcohol derivatives and other compounds, including a key step in the biocatalytic cascade for the HIV therapeutic islatravir.

Summary: A fluorescent polycatenated hydrogen-bonded organic framework (MEP-HOF) was developed using a C-3-symmetric rigid macrocycle as the exclusive building block. The tri-carboxylated macrocycles form supramolecular embraced pairs stabilized by intermolecular non-covalent interactions, further assembling into an interwoven three-dimensional H-bond network with a degree of catenation of seven. The MEP-HOF can be easily prepared and regenerated, and its fluorescent properties make it a sensitive sensor for nitrobenzene detection in water, with a detection limit of 61.8 +/- 2.2 ppb.

Summary: Earth-abundant Mn(iii) complexes can be used as small molecule alternatives to expensive horseradish peroxidase (HRP) for activating galactose oxidase (GOase), with low loadings and good efficacy. While an induction period is observed with Mn(OAc)(3) activation, it can be eliminated by using other Mn(iii) sources, resulting in higher product conversions.
