Summary: A new family of lanthanide compounds with different structures and properties have been synthesized using dppeO(2) as a ligand. The compounds exhibit a two-dimensional or one-dimensional structure depending on the lanthanide cation. Some of the compounds have magnetic or luminescent properties, and they can be used as structural probes or for specific applications.

Summary: The high cost and negative environmental impact of precious metal catalysts have led to an increased demand for nonprecious alternatives. This study presents the development of an inexpensive and air-stable precatalyst that can effectively catalyze the coupling of important heteroaryl pinacolborons with heteroaryl halides. The catalyst can tolerate sensitive functional groups under mildly basic conditions that were incompatible with other methods.

Summary: Oxidative addition is a fundamental reaction in organometallic chemistry and catalysis, but examples of P-O bond activation are rare. In this study, we report the ligand-templated oxidative addition of a phosphinite P-O bond in a diphosphinito aniline compound, resulting in the formation of a (PONO)Ni((HPPr2)-Pr-i) complex after proton rearrangement. Notably, the P-O bond cleavage occurs selectively over an amine N-H bond activation. Furthermore, the ligand cannibalization is reversible, as various XPR2 reagents can readily produce different (P2ONO)NiX complexes and free HPiPr(2).

Summary: The reactivities of two selected phosphanylphosphaalkenes, Ph2C=P-PtBu2 (1a) and (p-MeO-Ph)(2)C=P-PtBu2 (1b), towards CuCl, AgCl and (tht)AuCl (tht = tetrahydrothiophene) were investigated. New phosphanylphosphaalkene dimeric and monomeric complexes (Cu and Ag dimeric, and Au monomeric) were formed as a result. All obtained products were stable in air and moisture, and were insensitive to light.

Summary: A novel benzopyran-based platinum complex was prepared and studied using UV-visible spectrophotometry. The complexation between Pt(II) and HToC resulted in the formation of a stable binary yellow complex. The analytical results showed that the complex exhibits good sensitivity, versatility, and cost-effectiveness. DFT studies revealed the molecular geometry and other structural specifics of the complex. The complex demonstrated better antiproliferative potential, antimicrobial activity, and antioxidant capacity compared to the ligand.

Summary: The introduction of triazolate as a protective group to the inner metal coordination sphere modulated the biological activity of Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes towards cancer cell lines and the inhibition of selenoenzyme thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) in an unexpected way. The palladium compound exhibited significantly greater potency than the isostructural platinum analogue and showed submicromolar activity on the most responsive cell line. This difference was also observed in the inhibitory efficiency toward TrxR.

Summary: In this study, a molecule, 4-(3,5-Di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxyphenylamino)-N-(6-methoxypyridazin-3-yl)benzenesulfonamide (LSOAPH2), with a 2-aminophenol group was synthesized and characterized. The o-iminosemiquinonate monoanion (LSOISQ) was obtained through an electrochemical oxidation reaction and its properties were confirmed by spectroscopy. LSOAPH2 and LSOISQ exhibited anticancer activity in human cancer cell lines, with LSOISQ showing superior efficacy compared to LSOAPH2.

Summary: The synthesis of metallic nanoparticles with high surface area and controlled shape is crucial for improving their catalytic performance. In this study, a synthetic methodology for sub-nanometric Ru nanoparticles was developed using a tetragonal prismatic supramolecular nanocapsule. The catalytic properties of these sub-nanometric nanoparticles were tested and the encapsulation of [Ru-5] clusters inside the nanocapsule was observed. A thorough study enlightened the nature of the trapped clusters and proposed them as the first-grown seeds of subsequent formation of the subnanometric Ru nanoparticles. The double role of the nanocapsule in stabilizing nanoparticles and hosting ultra-small Ru clusters is unprecedented and may lead to the synthesis of ultra-small metallic clusters for catalytic purposes.

Summary: We present a new approach to determine ligand exchange parameters based on electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). This method allows for the quantitative investigation of the solution-phase equilibria by introducing isotopically labelled ligands to a solution of metal host and unlabelled ligands. Our ESI-MS approach provides rate constants and activation parameters for ligand dissociation in the solution, providing mechanistic insights that are not easily obtained from traditional solution-phase techniques.

Summary: Subnanoparticles with sizes of approximately 1 nm show potential for enhancing catalytic performance of transition metals and their oxides, particularly in selective oxidation reactions. The electronic states and oxophilicity of copper oxide SNPs remain a topic of debate, especially in terms of their redox properties during oxidation reactions for hydrocarbons. In this study, in situ X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) measurements of Cu28Ox SNPs prepared using a dendritic phenylazomethine template revealed a lower temperature of T-50=138 degrees C for the Cu-II -> Cu-I reduction reaction due to Cu-O bond elongation in the ultrasmall copper oxide particles.

Summary: Miniaturizing metallic materials from the nanoscale to the atomic scale transforms their structures and physical properties. Some sub-nanoscale catalysts exhibit higher activity than conventional nanoparticle catalysts, and certain subnanoparticles become superatoms with unique physical properties deviating from those of the original elements. However, conventional metallurgy and chemistry do not always apply to the synthesis, structural analysis, and functional design of materials at the sub-nanoscale due to the disappearance of crystal structures. This review focuses on atom hybridization, a series of materials research that involves hybridizing atoms to create desired materials for various applications.

Summary: The preparation method can greatly affect the properties of mixed-oxide materials, which often show better performance in photocatalysis and gas sensing compared to single-metal oxides. In this study, semiconductor nanomaterial hybrids based on TiO2 and ZnO were prepared using laser ablation and tested as chemiresistive gas sensors. The gas-sensing properties of the hybrids were found to be influenced by their surface chemistry, morphology, crystallinity, and phase composition.
